Job description
We are seeking an FPGA design engineer to work with the Space Coast Photonics team in Melbourne, FL. This FPGA design position requires the applicant to use and apply electrical engineering and digital logic design principles to develop VHDL code for custom designed high speed, FPGA hardware. The typical target FPGA’s are the Microchip PolarFire and the Xilinx family of Ultrascale, Virtex, or Spartan components. The applicant should be very familiar with the Microchip Libero and Xilinx Vivado Design Suites and should have experience completing multiple designs. The applicant will have to implement high speed transceiver designs up to 12.5 Gb/s as well as internal digital logic for microcontroller address/data buses, serial interfaces, and discrete control logic.
Each FPGA design will also interface with hardware components such as high speed memory, A/D and D/A converters, temperature sensors, power monitors, etc. The applicant should be familiar with using FPGA IP cores to implement various functionality such as 10 Gb/s Ethernet communications links and soft microcontrollers. Any experience using high speed communications hardware or fiber optic components would be beneficial but not required.
This position requires the ability to work in a small team environment so the applicant must communicate effectively with peers and management and must also be able to plan the given engineering project, multi-task, and manage unplanned or unexpected tasks.
The applicant must possess knowledge of principles and techniques commonly used in hardware development and must have a Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Engineering or Electrical Engineering. Applicant must be a US citizen.
