We’re seeking an enthusiastic Fixture Design Engineer to join our dynamic, flexible, forward-thinking team to help support the development of all the early physical prototype builds for JLR. You’ll be primarily responsible for the design of unique prototype Body-in-White (BIW) tooling and fixtures; this will also include battery cells/stacks, battery frames and cladding.
You’ll have experience designing and developing BIW tooling and fixtures using the Catia V6 CAD platform with a sound knowledge of the whole BIW assembly process. Key to this role will be the confidence to communicate your designs to stakeholders across JLR.
Knowledge, skills and experience
Essential:
- Proficient in Assembly Design & Part design workbenches using Catia V6.
- Background in BIW Assembly Construction.
- Understanding / appreciation of BIW joining techniques & equipment
- Intensive design experience designing BIW assembly tooling
- Proficient IT skills with significant experience of using virtual engineering tools.
- Ability to analyse and present data to lead engineers and seniors.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
Desirable:
Design experience in low volume tooling.- Previous experience of working within a prototype build environment would be beneficial but not essential.
- A solid understanding on how things are made. Machining principles, Milling, turning, mechanical assembly (Jigs and Fixtures) etc. to enable design for manufacture.
