Desert Springs Resort, located in the Almanzora region of Almeria,
Andalucia, South-East Spain, is looking to recruit a full-time
HEAD CRICKET GROUNDSPERSON
Desert Springs Resort, Europe’s only international award-winning luxury family resort with its very own dedicated Cricket Ground with an eighteen (18) wicket square, constructed to ECB standards and Academy with twenty-four (24) grass wickets has venue accreditation from the International Cricket Council (ICC) to host official One Day International (ODI) and T20I matches.
A key element of the role will be in preparing playing surfaces, outfields, practice areas and cricket nets of all the cricket facilities at Desert Springs Resort to the highest possible standard.
You will have relevant experience within either or both a First-Class county /
International operation and a proven track record of preparing First-Class cricket pitches and practice nets. You will also have the experience and confidence to instruct and to lead others.
You will be a skilled, experienced and proven Groundsperson.
Your knowledge of Health & Safety issues and the current Regulations and Directives of the ECB relating to pitches and match regulations will give you a distinct advantage.
An NVQ Level 3 in Amenity Horticulture (Sports Turf Management) is preferred but not essential.

HEAD GROUNDSPERSON
ROLE PROFILE
RESPONSIBLE TO: The Resort Superintendent
1. RELEVANT GENERAL OBJECTIVES
- Work flexibly to undertake a wide variety of activities in carrying out the role.
- Help the Resort to meet all ECB and ICC performance criteria.
- Continue to develop the existing and strong reputation of the cricket facilities.
- Commit to an open, challenging culture where outstanding performance is the norm.
2. SPECIFIC ROLE PROFILE
- Prepare playing surfaces, outfields, practice areas and cricket nets of all the cricket facilities at Desert Springs Resort to the highest possible standard for all visiting cricket groups throughout the year which will include for all forms of cricket – National, International, First Class, Limited Overs, Age Group, Academy, Club, School, College and University.
- Placing and removing covering from the playing area when required and assist in the removal of surface water from the playing area.
- Be conversant with all Regulations and Directives of the ECB and ICC relating to pitches and match regulations.
- Take responsibility for and lead the Ground staff team.
- Identify training needs and help to put in place a programme of continuing professional development for the Ground staff team.
- Participate pro-actively and contribute to team meetings.
- Operate ground equipment in accordance with the standard operating procedure for such equipment and maintain safety as a prime concern ensuring compliance with Health & Safety legislation.
- Ensure Health & Safety issues are at the forefront in all work undertaken with relevant Risk Assessments being completed where appropriate.
- Liaise directly with the Resort Superintendent and fulfil any reasonable request or duty required by him.
- Any other duties laid down from time to time consistent with the grading of the post.
3. MEASURABLE KEY PERFORMANCE INDICATORS (KPIs)
- Ensure the quality of pitches, nets and practice areas is marked to a high level by teams and officials.
- Contribute to the ongoing improvement of the standard of pitches and practice facilities.
- Be appraised annually as a good team member working in co-operation with all members of the Ground staff team.
- Other KPIs to be agreed with the post holder.
PERSON SPECIFICATION

Experience
- - Relevant experience within either a First-Class county or International operation.
- - Using ride-on horticultural equipment.
- - Management of a team of staff
- - Proven track record of preparing First-Class cricket pitches and practice nets.
Knowledge
- - Health & Safety issues, particularly with regard to horticultural machinery.
- - Conversant with the Regulations and Directives of the ECB relating to pitches and match regulations.
Skills
- - Able to prepare top quality playing surfaces.
- - Use of grass cutting equipment.
- - Able to work to dead-lines.
- - Able to motivate and communicate effectively with staff.
- - Able to plan and delegate effectively.
Qualifications
- - NVQ Level 3 in Amenity Horticulture (Sports Turf Management).

Salary: £29,000.00-£32,000.00 per year
