Job title: Deputy Payroll and Pensions Manager

Salary: £40,291.82 to £46,060.82 per annum Inclusive of London Weighting

Contract type: Permanent

Hours: 35 hours per week

Location: Bloomsbury, London

Are you an experienced Payroll Officer or currently a Deputy Payroll Manager with experience of Pensions and managing a small team, looking for a new challenge? Can you act as a source of Payroll advice, explaining payroll matters in a way everyone can understand?

About the Team
The SOAS Payroll and Pensions team is a vibrant and diverse team sitting within the HR Directorate and is responsible for running the monthly payroll for the SOAS community, including employees, fractional teachers, casual workers and contractors, ensuring timely and accurate payments and maintaining legal compliance.

About the Role

You will manage a small team and deputise for the Payroll and Pensions Manager ensuring the efficient running of the payroll and the accurate and timely delivery of payments to staff.

You will process accurate and timely payroll for all staff and provide a professional Pension service to staff. You will ensure employees are paid accurately and timely using the ResourceLink HR/Payroll system by:

  • Administering the monthly payroll for designated Departments and Directorates for Established, Casual Hourly paid, and Fractional Teaching Staff
  • Organising and processing of all data received within the payroll office, manually and electronically;
  • Checking Daily/Weekly Audit Reports and Preparing the Bacs file.

About you

As an experienced Payroll person, you’ll have an up to date working knowledge of relevant statutory legislation, payroll and pensions practices. You’ll have an in-depth understanding of appropriate standards of confidentiality and professionalism relating to your role, as well as strong communication skills and the ability to deal tactfully and in an inclusive way with staff at all levels.

You’ll also need to have:

  • Experience of managing payroll for a complex workforce, for example, including casual and hourly paid workers.
  • Line management or supervisory experience
  • An in-depth understanding of and experience in providing guidance and advice on the HR/ Payroll systems
  • Demonstrable ability to uphold high standards of accuracy, meet deadlines, and implement policies and procedures effectively
  • Proven ability to work well under pressure and delivering against sometimes conflicting demands.

Any working knowledge of ResourceLink and VT (Visiting Teachers) would be advantageous but isn’t essential.
