Job Title: Deputy Mortuary Manager
Location: West Way, Andover
Reports to: Crematorium Manager
Salary: £42,000 per annum
Hours: Core hours 40 hours per week
Pure Cremation Limited is a specialist Company providing Direct Cremation funeral services. The team has more than 30 years’ experience of serving the bereaved and the people that matter to them.
We are seeking a Deputy Mortuary Manager to join our fast paced, forward thinking Group of Companies.
Job Purpose
The main purpose of the post is to provide support to the Crematorium Manager in the management and development of West Way Mortuary, its staff and facilities, with oversight of the mortuary at Charlton Park. In the absence of the Crematorium Manager, ensure that the mortuary operates in full compliance with relevant legislation and uphold the Company’s policies, protocols and regulations.
You will responsible for the management of the mortuary staff. The ideal candidate will have experience in the operation of mortuaries, people management and possess excellent customer care skills.
Key Tasks
Oversee the smooth and efficient running of all mortuary sites – liaising with the Crematorium Manager, Site Manager and Head of Operations & Logistics to ensure all resource is allocated appropriately and all clients in our care are tracked into the bespoke mortuary register as per company policy.
To assist Private Ambulance Crew with taking the deceased into our care. To assist with the preparation of the deceased ensuring all items of jewellery are accurately recorded and correctly labelled.
Ensure transfers between Knutsford, Westway and Charlton Park Crematorium are made within SLA’s.
Provide Mortuary fleet management support.
To serve as a role model, coaching and mentoring the Teams to achieve the Company standards and their adherence to policy and procedure.
To conduct regular 1:1 meetings with the team to review performance, share ideas and seek areas of improvement or clarification, collating common issues resulting from 1:1 or team meetings and seek resolution within the Company and provide feedback as appropriate.
To use observation, feedback, and experience to seek ways to contribute to the Company’s continued improvement.
Lead the induction of new employees to ensure they are compliant with the required standards of performance and Company procedures.
Coordinate and manage the PPE stock held for Westway Mortuary and Charlton Park Mortuary and ensure that enough stock is available at each site.
Identify and arrange appropriate training (ensuring Crematorium Manager aware) and maintain accurate training records and up to date certificates on file.
Ensure correct approval received for any site spend and that invoices are approved accordingly.
Approval of team holiday requests.
Ensure the correct disposal of hazardous waste.
Monitor coffin/body bag/urn stock and order when necessary, ensuring correct approval first.
Manage the transportation of coffins and other stock between sites.
In the absence of the Crematorium Manager, manage the Scheduled Transfer Operative Team.
Manage Amesbury site, ensuring it is secure and kept organised and tidy.
Carry out a monthly stock take, sending all accurate information to accounts.
Support accounts with the end of year stock count.
Personal Capabilities
Experience:
Previous management experience is essential. Previous mortuary experience is desirable.
Experience of site or logistics management
Excellent IT skills are essential
Excellent communication skills with impeccable attention to detail
Proven background of working within strict legal and process guidelines without detriment to the customers quality of service
Demonstrable problem solving skills
Ability to work with minimum of supervision
Full UK driving license. Forklift license desirable
