Brilliant are currently recruiting for a Deputy Matron for a well established Care Home in Lytham
WHAT WE'RE LOOKING FORTo assist the Matron in the effective management of care in the home. Provide leadership and co-ordination of the Care Teams, assisting in the development, monitoring and evaluation of nursing care standards. Participating fully in the care process, leading from the front by practice and example.
Taking full clinical and managerial responsibility for the home in the absence of the Matron, participating in On-Call arrangements and providing emergency cover as necessary so that a Registered 1st level nurse is always on duty.
THE IDEAL CANDIDATE- Ensure that assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation of nursing care takes place in line with the agreed process.
- In co-operation with the Matron, ensure the creation and maintenance of a safe and homely environment.
- Monitor service provision and report deficiencies.
- The ongoing development of social, recreational and occupational opportunities for residents.
- Ensuring that reports on clients, whether in writing or given verbally, are completed according to company policy or statutory requirements.
- Investigate; take action and report outcome regarding complaints or untoward incidents or occurrences as delegated by the Matron.
- Keep abreast of all current trends and practices in nursing care and maintain professional competence.
- Initiate and participate in development, trials and research related to the improvement of services for residents.
- Carry out nursing procedures and treatments assisting Medical Practitioners when required.
- Co-ordinating clinical services (i.e. medical, dental, chiropody, optical) ensuring appropriate nurse involvement.
- Arrange routine visits by the General Practitioners.
- Demonstrate nursing procedures to less experienced trained nursing staff or where appropriate Care Assistants.
- Act down for the Registered Nurses, or other direct care staff as required.
- Assist the Registered Nurses in dealing with resident’s relatives, explaining care plans, resident’s state of health and notifying them of bereavements, as necessary.
- To be aware of your responsibility for ensuring the people you are looking after are safeguarded from abuse.
MANAGEMENT
- The supervision of the work of the Care Teams and their leaders, monitoring performance and motivating members.
- Help to ensure that communication and flow of information is accurate, timely and effective.
- To ensure that company policies and procedures in respect of Admission, Care Planning, Control and Administration of Medicines, Discharge and Death are pursued accurately and effectively.
- Responsible for ensuring that the Health and Safety at Work Act Regulations are carried out and that staff have been informed of their obligations under this Act.
- Ensure that all furniture, fittings and nursing equipment is maintained in safe working order, reporting and deficiencies to the Matron or Company Estates Manager.
- Within the limits of authority delegated by the Matron, participate in the ordering of supplies, equipment and repairs, exercising general economy.
- Help the Matron in ensuring that all records and systems required by the Health Authority, Fire Officer or Health and Safety at Work Act are maintained according to company policy and statutory requirements; consulting with the Matron or Company as necessary.
- Help the Matron in ensuring that all staff have clearly defined responsibilities.
PERSONNEL AND TRAINING
- In line with company policy, assist the Matron by participating fully in the process of recruiting staff.
- Participate in induction and orientation training of newly appointed staff in line with Company policy.
- With the Matron and the companies Training and Quality Assurance Manager, take an active part in the design and implementation of staff training and development programmes. Where appropriate play an active part in the teaching process.
- Carry out staff appraisal in line with Company policy, ensuring that the development needs of staff are referred to the Matron and the Company Training and Quality Assurances Manager.
- Offer support and guidance to staff when they seek help in relation to personal or work related problems, Ensuring confidentiality of information.
- Ensure that personnel records and forms are completed in accordance with Company policy.
- Deal effectively with grievances and matters of staff discipline, investigating breaches and taking action as necessary and in line with the Companies Disciplinary and Grievance Procedures.
Salaries include paid breaks, paid NMC subscription, DBS checks paid for, free car parking, free uniform and free meal provided whilst on shift.
