About the Trust
Royal Berkshire NHS Foundation Trust is one of the largest general hospital foundation trusts in the country. We provide acute medical and surgical services to Reading, Wokingham and West Berkshire and specialist services such as cancer, dialysis, and eye surgery to a wider population across Berkshire and its borders.
The Trust is made up of 7 locations with the Royal Berkshire Hospital being the main site.
What you’ll be responsible for:
· Be a role model for the ‘Finance Matters’ Finance strategy.
· Provide strategic and operational leadership for finance across the organisation and help strengthen its contribution to the Trust’s activities.
· Make sure the financial objectives for the Trust are clearly defined and understood across the organisation and fully meet the compliance requirements of the NHS England & Improvement.
· Lead the financial management of the Trust overseeing financial risk, investment appraisal, debts and other financing, compliance with financial covenants, cash flow management, financial compliance and financial systems development, together with tracking and supporting the achievement of Trust-wide savings programmes.
· Working closely with BOB ICS senior finance colleagues to ensure that the Trust Finance strategy aligns with that of the BOB ICS and providing expert knowledge into the BOB ICS and solutions to funding issues.
· Maintain strong working relationships with external professional advisers including but not limited to the Trust’s lawyers, auditors and management consultants
You’ll learn the following whilst working at the trust:
1. An in depth understanding of the roles and responsibilities involved in working within the NHS
2. Knowledge of the systems used, to effectively complete your role to the highest standard at all times
3. A sense of teamwork, gained through working alongside and supporting colleagues from all levels, within the organisation
You’ll have the following skills/experience:
· Significant post qualification experience at a senior level in a complex organisation
· Expert specialist knowledge of financial and accounting procedures including current legislation and NHS accounting policies
· A strong understanding of the healthcare sector, whether gained through the NHS, independent sector or both
· Excellent written and verbal communication skills with in-depth knowledge of techniques for interpreting and presenting complex and sensitive financial and non-financial management information to a range of audiences
· Ability to challenge and effectively manage and deal with highly contentious situations and issues

- Assist the Director in overseeing the financial operations of the organization
- Manage investment portfolios and ensure compliance with investment management policies
- Perform accrual accounting and general ledger accounting functions
- Monitor revenue management and implement strategies for maximizing revenue
- Implement cost control measures to optimize financial performance
- Conduct account reconciliation to ensure accuracy and integrity of financial data
- Ensure compliance with financial regulations and internal controls
- Prepare financial statements and reports for internal and external stakeholders
- Collaborate with auditors during annual audits
- Supervise accounts receivable processes and collections
Requirements:
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field
- Proven experience in investment management, accrual accounting, general ledger accounting, revenue management, cost control, account reconciliation, compliance management, financial statement preparation, public accounting, and accounts receivable
- Strong knowledge of financial regulations and compliance requirements
- Proficient in financial software and Microsoft Office Suite
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy
- Effective communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to work independently as well as part of a team
