The Admissions Team (within Global Recruitment and Admissions) is responsible for handling applications to almost all award-bearing courses at the University. The University of Reading has an ambitious vision for the future and our Global Recruitment & Admissions service has a key role in achieving this.

As a Deputy Admissions Officer you will take a supporting role in the management and operation of the admissions team. Working under the direction of Admissions Officers, you will ensure procedures are implemented effectively and that team-members are trained and monitored appropriately within a defined area of responsibility (which may be subject to change in accordance with the changing needs of the business). You will also be responsible for producing and maintaining data on all aspects of the admissions process for wide internal circulation.

You will have:

  • Good administrative skills
  • Ability to use IT systems and software appropriate to the role with proficiency in Microsoft Excel.
  • Confidence with data
  • Strong interpersonal skills
  • Excellent attention to detail
  • Willingness and ability to work effectively and accurately under pressure and to tight deadlines
  • Ability to work to guidelines and procedures
  • Ability to engage with stakeholders, colleagues and applicants clearly and with confidence
  • Ability to prioritise own workload
  • Sensitivity to the working styles of others

We know that our team are essential to our success and as such we value our staff highly. There are several benefits to working with us:

Hybrid working arrangements; everyone has their own dedicated workstation in our friendly open plan office on campus and we also support hybrid working. Deputy Admissions Officers can work from home two days a week if they wish, and we will provide all the technical equipment needed to do so.

Generous annual leave allowance: The University believes that it is important for all employees to balance their work and personal lives. We offer a generous entitlement of 21 days (increases to 25 days after 5 years in service) in addition to 8 bank holidays and 6 additional closure days at Christmas and Easter time each year where no staff are required to work.

A vibrant place to work: as a member of staff you can receive discounts at a number of amenities across the University of Reading’s food outlets, restaurants, cafes and bars as well as a generously discounted membership at SportsPark which includes extensive indoor and outdoor sports facilities a short walk away from the office: https://sport.reading.ac.uk/membership/staff/

A diverse workforce: We know that we can only achieve our vision of being a world-class, forward-looking, confident, and ambitious university by recruiting, supporting, and developing staff from the widest variety of backgrounds. We have a proud history of diversity and inclusion and are working actively on several key initiatives to continue this: https://www.reading.ac.uk/diversity/
