We have a great opportunity for a talented Delivery & Operations Manager to join our Data Technology team at the John Lewis Partnership (JLP).
The customer is at the centre of everything we do, and using our Data effectively to drive insight helps us personalise the customer experience and make faster, more informed business decisions. To accelerate the realisation of value from our Data, JLP is investing significantly to transform its in-house data engineering capability, whilst moving to Product ways of working. Underpinning this is a rapid data consolidation to our cloud-based data, insight and analytics platform - the Partnership Data Platform (PDP).
Smart use of Data has been key to JLP’s past successes, and will be even more crucial to the future across our Retail, Financial Services, and Build to Rent lines of business. Our vision is to embed data-driven insight and decision making at scale across the Partnership.
Internally this role is known as Delivery & Operations Manager - Data
What you’ll be doing
As a Delivery & Operations Manager in Data you will:
You will report into the Head of Change Delivery and Operations for Customer and Data
Work with the Strategy, Architecture and Product teams to co-create a roadmap for Data change and generate a route to the technical delivery of this plan
Working with Head Of Data Product, setting the delivery and Agile methodologies strategy across Data
Have accountability for delivery and operations across the Data Technology domain
Own and assure end-to-end operability across all Data services - whether hosted on strategic cloud-based platforms or on-premises legacy platforms
Lead and inspire a large highly skilled technical team of over 100 JL Partners and contractors, who are accountable for the end-to-end delivery of Data Technology Products
Optimise the cost of delivery by effectively managing these highly skilled teams ( internal and 3rd Parties) driving efficiency and removing impediments to success
Have experience in managing multiple suppliers at the account level and optimising mixed model teams to achieve business outcomes
Measure service(s) throughput, and value released from our strategic and legacy platforms, to ensure that service commitments are met
Build strong working relationships with other Technology Leaders and senior stakeholders across the wider Partnership, managing critical dependencies where applicable
Champion continuous improvement by encouraging teams to trial new techniques and ways of working and support them in their pursuit of high performance
Coach and mentor Partners to learn and grow into contemporary agile ways of working, and facilitate the enhancement of the skill levels of team members. Foster an open and honest environment where achievements are celebrated and mistakes are learned from.
Essential Skills you’ll have
Outstanding communication skills that go beyond “tech talk” – the ability to translate complex IT matters to those without an IT background
A clear passion for innovation and change with demonstrable evidence of delivery of innovative change/disruptive thinking
Experience in building the technology foundations that has embedded data driven decision making and analytics at scale
Experience at managing multi-million pound delivery budgets & managing multiple multi-skilled DevSecOps teams onshore and offshore
Experience of owning operational responsibility for business critical applications and / or services, both cloud-based and on-premises
Experience of maintaining the contractual agreements with offshore teams to deliver high-quality products to end-users
Effective vendor, risk and contract management will also be a crucial part of your role, operating a stable service at the best possible value
Experience building and developing high performing, cross functional, DevSecOps teams in a Product environment
Hands on experience in Agile, Kanban, Lean and DevOps frameworks & proven history of leading IT DevOps within an agile environment.
Desirable skills:
In depth experience of the end-to end delivery of Data Products with a good understanding of design best practice and service management
Experience leading agile transformation in a medium to large organisation
A background in software engineering and literacy in modern software development
Certifications - CSM / Lean
Experience in Programme or Portfolio management with a record of successes.
