Organic Veg Box Packer & Delivery Driver

£10.50/hr plus fuel based on mileage.

ABOUT THE ROLE..

We’re Plentiful Wholefoods, based in Ramsbottom, Bury. We were the first plastic free shop in the North West, and we’re going from strength to strength – bringing organic, local produce to our communities.

Our organic fruit and veg box scheme is growing – and we need someone to assist in this role, pack boxes, undertake quality checks and deliver the boxes with amazing customer service. It's an intense role - but so rewarding seeing the impact it has on people's lives.

You need to have lots of motivation and energy as this is a primarily lone working role – but you’ll still be very much part of the Plentiful team, sharing the same building and communicating with us all about produce.

You’ll also need to have excellent organisational skills and be able to work independently as you’ll be your own boss on packing days after your training is complete. There’s little room for error, but there’s a system for everything!

The role will include:

• Receiving deliveries of veg, quality checks and stock checks
• Packing veg boxes to specific weights and lists, whilst checking quality of each item – and picking orders from the store.
• Organising veg boxes to be stored for collection and communicating with the team any anomalies.
• Weekly fruit and veg stock take for in store to assist with ordering
• Delivering 30+ fruit and veg boxes using own vehicle (mileage and time paid). (Van coming soon!)
• Maintaining customer relationships with the current much loved veg box gang.
• Promotion of the veg boxes (making social media content, attending events, sharing leaflets, chatting with new potential customers, any other ideas you may have)
• Volunteer or apprentice training
• Potential in store cover if anyone is on holidays (additional hours).

Hours Will Vary - Minimum 2 days - See Below.

At the start of your employment you will be assisting our current veg box packing co-ordinator, and will be expected to work Tuesdays at 9am-5pm (but usually finishing before this). Finishing time depends on when our delivery arrives, so flexibility is a must.

During your training (first 4 weeks) you will then work the following day, Wednesday, 9am-3pm delivering veg boxes with our current staff member.

Once training is complete, we will split the veg box packing over 2 days. You will work independently and be expected to cover 2 full days of your own, probably Wednesday and Thursday (dependent on deliveries).

If our veg box scheme grows - there will be scope for more hours if you wish.

ABOUT YOU…

Essential:

• Flexible in terms of time
• Own vehicle (until we have a van).and driving licence. You will be paid extra for this.
• Face to face customer service experience, or show evidence of being excellent with people – a positive presence is essential to be part of the team.
• A good level of fitness and stamina, and ability to lift up to 25kg, our veg box packing room is upstairs – and there’s a lot to carry up and down.
• Fluent in English
• GCSE Maths level, able to work with basic decimals and fractions.
• A fairly good knowledge of food, produce and what to look out for in quality checks (ie which veg goes soft, which crinkle, which need to be in the fridge, what part of the veg starts to wilt).
• Be able to keep calm and focussed on challenging days, seeing them as a procedure to work through, step by step. Experience in high pressure roles.
• Able to work on own initiative – have worked independently to undertake a project or role.
• Great organisation skills and be able to juggle multiple tasks. This is to confidently and accurately complete swaps/add on requests in boxes.
• Smartphone to use for directions

A bonus:

• Experience in veg box field or with fresh produce.

• Retail experience
• Knowledge of the surrounding area
