Job summary
The Prime Minister and Technology recently announced an initial £100 million to kickstart the delivery of the government’s major ambitions for the UK’s capability in safe and reliable foundation models. The Taskforce will develop the safe and reliable use of this pivotal artificial intelligence (AI) across the economy and ensure the UK is globally competitive in this strategic technology.
We are recruiting for a number of roles to work in our new AI Foundational Model Team. This is an exciting opportunity to join the team working on the government’s major ambitions for the UK’s capability in safe and reliable foundation models.
Foundation models are a category of artificial intelligence systems trained on huge volumes of information to quickly generate outcomes across a range of settings, including healthcare, public service and education.
We are looking for applicants to join the team, which will be embedded within the Directorate for Digital and Technology Policy. In addition to working as part of an exciting new team within Government, these roles will also require individuals to work with a range of industry stakeholders, delivery partners, teams across government and the Chair of the taskforce.
There may also be a range of other fast-paced roles available in linked teams working on AI. Any candidates clearing the bar will be offered the opportunity to discuss these alternative posts with the relevant hiring manager.
Job description
We are seeking applicants to apply for multiple roles across the Taskforce Team. In your application, in CV section, please indicate which of the following roles you would be interested in and in your personal statement, explain why you would be suitable.
Strategy Advisor Roles:
Successful candidates will be responsible for developing and delivering strategy within the Taskforce, working closely with the appointed chair.
Responsibilities could include:
- Liaising with senior leadership, including DSIT Secretary of State and No.10, to ensure effective governance of the Taskforce;
- Working across the departmental and wider government to ensure alignment with other priorities;
- Advising ministers and senior officials on key policy and operational decisions.
Chair Private Office Roles:
The Taskforce will be chaired by an directly appointed expert from the sector. The chair will be supported by a small private office which will help to help run meetings, commission papers and manage PMO processes.
Responsibilities could include:
- Lead the team’s service to boards and committees.
- Compiling and quality assuring board packs to make sure that boards receive consistently high-quality products.
- Support the project management of day to day deliverables.
Comms and Engagement Advisor Roles:
As a Ministerial and Departmental priority, interest in the AI Foundation Model Taskforce is considerable. We will require a team to cover external engagements, comms activitIes and wider briefing support.
Responsibilities could include:
- Coordinate highly effective cross cutting briefings, submissions and other products.
- Liaise with stakeholders across Government to deliver engagement updates and communications
- Build excellent relationships and collaborate with a range of internal and external stakeholders.
- Build Communication and Engagement Plans.
Delivery Officer Roles:
We have a number of vacancies which will play a key role in supporting the delivery of the Taskforce’s objectives, and supporting the Taskforce to make best use of the £100m allocated to it. These include programme managers, commercial and finance specialists, resourcing officers.
Responsibilities could include:
- Supporting effective budget management, monitoring projected budgets against expenditures, tracking delivery of benefits, identifying and mitigating risks.
- Monitor performance of projects, maintain delivery momentum, and work with specialists (e.g. commercial, finance, legal) to unblock delivery issues.
- Overseeing the project timelines, focusing on identifying medium term issues, risks and interdependencies between sub-teams.
- Updating senior Civil Servants and the Chair on the timeline, issues and risks, emphasising any that could impact overall delivery.
- Regular reporting to Secretary of State and updating the Department on Taskforce activities.
