Job description

Minimum qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Mathematics, a related technical field, or equivalent practical experience.
  • Experience automating infrastructure provisioning, developer operations, or continuous integration, delivery, designing, building, deploying of cloud-based solution architectures.
  • Experience with physical or virtual infrastructure, operating systems, or virtualization.
  • United Kingdom Security Vetting Developed Vetting (DV) clearance.

Preferred qualifications:

  • Experience with system administration tasks in Linux or Unix, with familiarity with standard IT security practices (e.g., encryption, certificates, key management).
  • Experience with scalable networking technologies (e.g., Load Balancers, Firewalls) and web standards (e.g., REST APIs, web security mechanisms).
  • Experience with deployment and orchestration technologies (e.g., Docker, Kubernetes, Mesos, OpenStack, Puppet, Chef, Salt, Ansible, Jenkins).
  • Experience designing, building, and deploying scalable cloud-based solution architectures.
  • Ability to execute in a customer-focused environment and advocate for partners and customers in a cross-functional organization.

The Google Public Sector, Delivery and Operations team supports Google Distributed Cloud Hosted Environments, and provides a solution for customers who need the flexibility, reliability, and scalability of the cloud, but also require a hosted solution. Our goal is to bring these modern solutions to our customers and enable their workflows to leverage all of the cutting-edge technology that Google Cloud can offer. We provide support for these critical customers to help troubleshoot, secure, maintain, and further develop the Google Cloud Platform in a collaborative and rapidly changing environment. We work closely with our customers, and various internal teams to provide the best possible solution and enable success.a

As a Delivery and Operations Engineer, you will be part of a team of engineers that provides support to Public Sector customers. You will provide training, documentation, and escalation support to a 24/7 team of support staff to ensure the ongoing operation of Google’s infrastructure.

Responsibilities

  • Be a technical advisor to customers and solve complex Cloud Infrastructure and DevOps challenges.
  • Create and deliver best practices recommendations, tutorials, blog articles, sample code, and technical presentations adapting to different levels of key business and technical stakeholders.
  • Provide highly technical implementation support in customer environments, including guidance on implementation feasibility of cross-product integrations.
  • Troubleshoot technical problems for customers with a mix of debugging, networking, system administration, updating documentation, and when needed, coding/scripting.
  • Drive the success of Google Cloud by understanding and advocating customers issues. This will include a need to sometimes work non-standard hours, shifts, or weekends.
