Job description

Responsibility for the decontamination science duties & processing of medical equipment within the Sterile Service & Endoscopy Decontamination unit

There is a requirement for the following qualifications:

  • Level 3 NVQ qualification of medical device decontamination
  • NVQ qualification of endoscopy decontamination
  • IDSC technical qualification
If you do not hold the above qualifications training will be provided by Sterile Services.

Working hours are 12.00 - 20.00 Monday to Friday including weekends.

Full UK driving licence is required for this role.

SCIENTIFIC & TECHNICAL
  • To work in accordance with Departmental Policies, Standard Operating Procedures and Quality Management System
  • To reprocess reusable medical devices, disassemble, clean, disinfect, check, reassemble, sterilise or high level disinfection (endoscopes), follow strict sterile product release procedures before despatch ensuring full traceability of all medical equipment through both Health Edge traceability and Neqis IMS system. Whilst adhering to the procedure of wearing appropriate PPE to allow safe handling of contaminated equipment and prevent cross contamination.
  • Receive, document and record on the IT tracking system contaminated equipment, checking the accuracy against the tray specification and raising any shortfalls with the decontamination technical supervisor
  • Where necessary dismantle instruments for thorough decontamination
  • Maintain a safe and compliant environment to reduce cross infection
  • Pack and wrap sets and instruments using various types of packing materials/containers using various methods to ensure an effective sterile field
  • Following inspection of surgical instrument/medical devices the packer assigns their unique identifier therefore accepting final responsibility for the item(s)
  • Confirm function of instruments; re-assemble instruments which have been dismantled for washing and check function; take corrective action if required.
