Job description
The role on offer is within small, but fast-moving and connected teams. You will be responsible for a wide range of topics in support of desk officers across the teams and will play a vital role in ensuring that the whole team can work to their full potential. The opportunity to gain an insight into international and procurement policy is a great basis for a future career within the international policy profession.
Within the DE&S Weapons Operating Centre, the Complex Weapons International Co Operation Strategy (CWICS) team are responsible for developing the benefits of increasing international engagement, through exports and inter-governmental cooperation around Complex Weapons. This is work that has a critical, material importance for the UK’s long-term strategy in this sector and impacts directly on UK prosperity. The CWICS team is small (10 people) but the role requires working with a large number of stakeholders within DE&S, MoD, wider Government and industry. A Secretariat, Policy and Business Support role which gives scope to exercise several skills including communications and stakeholder management.
Please be aware some attendance to site will be expected due to organisational requirements.
Responsibilities
- Provide secretariat support to Desk Officers, provide briefings and key messages for Senior International engagements, and attend meetings as required. Track meeting outputs and follow up actions as required.
- Obtain information at pace from a wide range of sources across DE&S, wider MoD, government.
- Support Desk Officers, DE&S and wider MOD with quality practical assistance across a range of complex Cooperation and Exports issues that affect defence business.
- Engage with stakeholders to ensure timeliness of response, factual accuracy, and coherence of approach.
- Operate effectively in the space between Head Office and DE&S teams, liaising between teams, and managing competing organisational priorities, to deliver DE&S Objectives, Goals, Strategies, & Measures (OGSM) and MOD objectives; and to develop IRG’s OGSM targets and review progress.
- Support the wider team in effective business management, including information management
- Build a network of Desk Officers and Delivery Team professionals across DE&S and wider MoD to support the provision of briefings and follow up from Senior Engagements.
- Support CWICS team in the development and implementation of Country Strategies.
Person specification
To be successful with your application, you'll need to show that you meet the following essential criteria:
- The ability to display a good level of written and spoken English.
- Previous stakeholder management experience.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Demonstrable ability to analyse data.
