Job description

Advances in information technology and digital communications are revolutionising the way we live and work, almost every aspect of our daily life depends on technology. Effective Information Assurance and Cyber Security has delivered many opportunities and benefits and is fundamental to the business of DE&S. With the use of information and information technology comes significant risk and potential threats through the loss or compromise of our information, which would impact on the success of Defence as a whole.

You will gain experience to multiple disciplines within Information Assurance including:

The DE&S Digital Cyber Operations Section:

The section owns and leads on the organisations management of Cyber security incidents within both DE&S and Defence Industry. This work includes both cross MOD and cross government collaboration conducting activities such as: Incident Response, provision of Cyber Security guidance, threat reporting, and vulnerability management. The section is currently leading of the development DE&S integration into the wider MOD Cyber community and exploring the generation of in-house protective monitoring solutions.

The DE&S Lightning delivery team:

The F35 LIGHTING post sits within the AIR Domain. This role will take the lead on the information assurance of a number of F-35 IT systems and provide advice across the F-35 programme. This post will require regular attendance at MOD Abbey Wood in Bristol and the successful candidate would be encouraged to apply for CompTIASecurity+ which would be funded by the business. This highlights our commitment to you to provide great opportunities for progression and development.

DE&S Data Protection team:

Providing advice, guidance, and support to the business to assure compliance with MOD Policy and UK Legislation relevant to Data Protection. This includes the assessment and mitigation of risks involved in processing personal data and playing a major role in helping drive continuous improvement in Data Protection support activities to make achieving compliance more effective, efficient, and easier. The vacancy sits within the DE&S Digital Information Management and Assurance team, reporting to the DE&S Chief Digital Information Security Officer (CDIO). The team works across the entire IA specialism supporting the increasing needs of DE&S business on Information Assurance, Risk, Accreditation and Cyber Security.

Responsibilities

  • Lead Information Assurance reviews, audits and security surveys both internally and externally with Industry Partners and present findings to your Information Assurance Manager.
  • Provide advice, guidance and manage the resolution of escalated complex queries to/for projects and pan organisational teams and develop training from trends.
  • Deliver assurance of relevant controls on the implementation of any system, activity, platform to ensure alignment with Information Assurance Policy and Standards.
  • Support the delivery of the accreditation activity within small and medium projects.
  • Support the identification and mitigation of Information Risks.
  • Identify and keep abreast of new trends in Information Assurance including Best Practice, Technology, Policy and Legislation and their impact on DE&S.

Person specification

To be successful with your application, you'll need to show that you meet the following essential criteria:

  • Relevant qualification and/or experience in Information Assurance.

In addition to the responsibilities above, the following technical competences and behaviours will be assessed at interview:
