Background
The Property and Facilities Department (PAF) is responsible for providing a safe and efficient working environment for all University staff and students. PAF manages all building services and the strategic development of the estate contributing to the delivery of City University London’s strategic and operational objectives.
Responsibilities
The post holder will be responsible for performing duties relating to security and public safety within the University. They are to assist in ensuring the provision of a high standard of information and reception services, public safety and security, for people, grounds, buildings and their contents.
Person Specification
Desirable
Security Industry Authority (SIA) security guard and CCTV licenses. Commitment to pass both courses as part of probationary process
Hold a current First Aid at Work Certificate (or must be able to complete the First Aid training course which will be provided within the first 6 months service).
Experience
Working knowledge of basic H&S regulations
Deal confidently, positively, and tactfully with all staff, students and visitors; understand and deliver good customer service
Ability to follow procedures and instructions and/or use initiative to respond to emergencies or incidents.
Experience of working in a busy ‘customer service’ environment
Previous experience of public interaction
Skills and Abilities
Communicate clearly and effectively with all customers, both face-to-face and on the telephone. Good listening skills.
Good IT skills, proficient in MS Office applications including email and Excel, plus the ability to learn specialist security software, e.g ID card issuing, and access control system.
Good written communication skills with the ability to write concise, clear messages, occurrence, and incident reports.
Is able to respond to dynamic situations quickly, including fire alarm activations, emergency incidents & conflict situations
Ability to move/lift light loads such as tables, chairs, packages/deliveries, operate gates/shutters.

Shift Hours:
Day Team: Mon to Fri 0615-1415hrs/1400-2200hrs, Sat & Sun 0700-1900hrs averaging out to 35hrs per week
Night Team: Mon to Fri 2130-0630hrs, Sat & Sun 19-0700hrs averaging out to 35hrs per week
Shift allowance: £2,406.24 per annum
