Who are we?
We are North Edinburgh Dementia Care (“NEDC”), a charity which provides day care services to those with a diagnosis of dementia in the North of Edinburgh. We collect members each day and bring them to the Seagrove Centre for lunch and activities. Staff lead a range of activities including reminiscence, music, gentle exercise, crafts, and more! We are a small team of staff and volunteers who have a genuine passion for creating engaging opportunities for Members.
Aim of the Role
Provide person-centred (outcome focussed) care for Seagrove Members, all of whom have a diagnosis of dementia; with the aim of preventing or delaying the need for residential care.
Hours
We are currently recruiting for a 30 Hour Contract. A 30 Hour Contract involves working 5 out of 6 days, with a rotational day off. The Centre is closed on Sundays. We do not regularly offer overtime.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide effective person-centred (outcome focussed) day care for members to enable them to choose and participle fully in the activities offered.
- Think creatively to create activities which will meet the different needs of members.
- Attend sensitively to the personal care needs of members.
- Actively listen to members and relay all relevant information to the Person-In-Charge in a timely fashion.
- Respect confidentiality.
- Work alongside team members in a supportive and friendly manner to create a positive environment for our small, close-knit team.
- Follow all policies and procedures which are in place to ensure the safety and wellbeing of members.
- Complete various domestic tasks as directed by the Person-In-Charge.
- Attend and participate in all staff meetings.
- Be a designated Key Worker to named individuals and complete all tasks related to this role including care plan documentation.
- Contribute ideas to the ongoing development of the Service.
- Carry out escort duties as required in a safe and professional manner under the guidance of all applicable Risk Assessments.
- Other duties assigned by the Person-In-Charge.
Personal Development Opportunities
- Participate in Support and Supervision sessions with the Centre Manager or the designated line manager as required.
- Speak to the Centre Manager when desired about potential development opportunities.
- Participate in a system of annual staff appraisals, to identify training and development needs.
- Attend relevant training courses and in-service training, in consultation with the Centre Manager and subject to budgetary constraints.
Skills and Experience
Essential
- A naturally friendly and caring individual who has a genuine passion for assisting those with a diagnosis of dementia.
- Awareness of, and an ability to work with, people who exhibit complex, challenging behaviour.
- Ability to work on own initiative.
- Ability to work effectively alongside volunteers and staff in a supportive manner.
- Ability to communicate effectively and present a positive public image for NEDC.
- A desire to support the ambitions of NEDC.
- Ability to think creatively to create engaging activities for members.
- Willingness to learn and develop.
- SVQ2/SVQ3 in Health & Social Care or equivalent.
Desirable
- Previous experience would be beneficial, but full training is provided and we care far more about your personal attributes.
