Because of a key strategic development and a new exciting business opportunity, we have a requirement for a security-cleared Database Administrator (DBA) based in the UK working at our Farnborough site and remotely. Leidos has more than 30 years’ experience of developing and running some of the largest government Biometric systems in the world. We are currently hiring to expand our UK based technical team who support our biometrics services for UK Govt.

We are looking for and enthusiastic and motivated Database Administrator, with high levels of security clearance, to join our growing team of IT experts in delivering high quality IT services to our government customer. You will be self-motivated and be able to work autonomously to achieve day-to-day objectives with significant results on project or operational deliverables, whilst also owning a variety of activities ensuring compliance with project milestones and customer KPIs and SLAs. You must be an effective communicator, comfortable directly engaging with customers and colleagues. You will also demonstrate an analytical and systematic approach to technical challenges.

You will be providing enterprise operational database support and maintenance services to a complex range of imagery and geospatial system capabilities in a high availability operational environment. This role is within the live support team and primarily covers the maintenance of MS SQL Server 2016 & PostgreSQL databases in Windows & Linux environments across a multisite enterprise solution and involvement\support where these databases interact or provide services to the wider software solution. This includes the maintenance and updates to Data Models and Data Definition Language as well as responsibility for database integrity.
You will need a thorough understanding of MS SQL Server 2016 and PostgreSQL database products. This is a complex and challenging role that will be highly rewarding, with extensive communication and interfacing requirements with multiple providers, agencies and Customer organisations.
The role also includes providing remote and on-site support. There is also a requirement to provide out-of-hours on-call support from time to time. You will be expected to contribute towards the creation and ongoing maintenance of technical documentation and, while primarily supporting the operational service, also be able to provide material to support change projects if required.
Your Role and Responsibilities;
Chairing the Change Advisory Board (CAB).
Managing the change and release aspects of a complex and operationally critical IT Service and Platform.
Providing an escalation point for Change Management (CM) and Release Management (RM).
Making decisions for all technical changes.
Co-ordinating releases and interdependencies.
Identifying and managing problems, risks, issues and the practicalities of normal change, standard change, and emergency change in a 24/7 organisation in order to meet our customers’ expectations and ensure Leidos’ reputation as an organisation which delivers for its customers.
Demonstrating a professional and proactive approach in customer communications in order to build strong relationships with a wide group of key customers.
Leading by example in demonstrating a collaborative and transparent partnering approach with the customer group in support of Leidos’ long term goals and principles.
Ensuring utilisation targets are hit with resources for which you are in control/manage
Effectively leading, managing and motivating the on-site and remote teams to ensure a culture of focus, delivery and professionalism within which each member understands their role, responsibilities and is enthused to deliver their best work.
Provide support to the operational and strategic management of this area of Leidos business including SME support to proposals for future work to benefit the customer.
Favorable If You Have;
Experience in an ITILv3 support enterprise environment.
MS SQL Server 2016 & PostgreSQL DBA experience in an Operational Support environment.
Knowledge of the change and operational release cycle, including Systems Integration, Development and Test.
Experience of IT architectures and the application of Software/Systems engineering principles within a secure IT environment.
A history as a proactive ‘self-starter’, able to respond to complex situations with little oversight and asking for support from other technical experts as required.
Experience with MS SQL Server 2016 support, Windows Server, RHEL and VMWare environments
Occasional travel to other Leidos and customer sites may be required.
