About us

The UCL Centre for Advanced Research Computing (ARC) is UCL’s new institute for infrastructure and innovation in digital research - the supercomputers, datasets, software and people that make computational science and digital scholarship possible.

We are an innovative hybrid: a professional services department that delivers reliable and secure infrastructure and services to UCL research groups, and a laboratory for research and innovation in the application of advanced computational and data intensive research methods, working in partnership with academics from all fields.

We are a home for the research technology professionals - research software engineers, HPC systems engineers, dev-ops specialists, data engineers, data scientists and data stewards - who support and collaborate in the delivery of UCL research, providing outstanding career development opportunities for these new kinds of research professionals.

Further information about working in ARC can be found on our website, www.ucl.ac.uk/arc

About the role

This is a leadership role with a broad spectrum of potential responsibilities which may also (depending on the skillset of a successful candidate) include service component/project ownership responsibilities.

We are particularly looking for leaders who are interested in working directly with researchers and leading on research projects and so experience with the research process (grants, duties as a principle investigator etc. or industrial equivalents) are extremely desirable.

If you have any queries regarding the vacancy or application process, please contact Mr. Chris Langridge, Departmental Manager via e-mail ([email protected]).

About you

We are looking for a senior cloud infrastructure engineer or systems administrator with experience in leading in designing and building platforms in on-premises data centres and/or public cloud (preferably Azure and/or AWS).

Experience of infrastructure as code (IaC), virtualization and container orchestration are essential. Configuration management at scale is essential. Exposure to GPU technology in virtualized environments would also be desirable.

Experience of one or more of the following technologies is required: IaC, cloud, Azure, AWS, Kubernetes, OpenShift, containers, docker, Puppet, Ansible, Terraform, CI/CD, GitOps, GPU

Please use the cover letter upload option to tell us how you meet the criteria set out in the person specification.

A copy of the JD and person specification can be download by clicking on the link at the bottom of this advert.
