Job description
The Canadian Association of University Teachers (CAUT) is seeking to fill the nine (9) week, full-time summer student position of Data Visualization Specialist.
Reporting to the Research Officer, this position will help the Research Team create visualization tools for the CAUT members’ Portal and website. The incumbent will be responsible for analyzing data and creating interactive data visualizations using Power BI to present data findings in an easy-to-understand format.
Duties and Responsibilities
Analyze and interpret complex data sets from various sources and prepare short written summaries.- Design and develop interactive data visualizations using Power BI.
- Collaborate with the Research Team to understand data requirements and objectives.
- Integrate visualizations into the members' portal and website.
- Optimize visualizations for performance and usability across multiple devices.
- Ensure data accuracy and integrity in all visualizations.
- Provide documentation and training to staff on the use and maintenance of the visualizations.
- May include other related duties as assigned by CAUT management.
Hours
Temporary, full-time position, 35 hours per week.
Qualifications
Education & Experience:
Currently completing post-secondary education with completion of at least three years of post-secondary education, majoring in Computer Science, Data Science, Information Technology, Economics or Business.- Experience using Microsoft Power BI.
- Understanding of data visualization techniques and creating dashboards.
- Experience connecting to data sources, importing, and redefining data.
- Familiarity with database design.
- Experience with data manipulation and analysis using Excel and other tools.
Language Requirements:
Ability to work in both official languages is an asset; fluency in verbal and written English essential.
Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities:
Strong organizational skills with outstanding attention to detail.- Ability to work independently and prioritize workload.
- Ability to communicate verbally and in writing effectively throughout all levels of the organization.
- Understanding of collective bargaining and labour relations context an asset.
- Understanding of and commitment to CAUT’s policies, practices and procedures and alignment with CAUT’s values and objectives, including social justice, equity, and human rights.
This role is a part of the Canada Summer Jobs initiative to support youth in obtaining quality temporary work experiences. Anticipated contract dates will fall between June 5, 2023, and September 1, 2023. To be eligible, youth must:
- be between 15 and 30 years of age at the beginning of the employment period*;
- be a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or person to whom refugee protection has been conferred under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act for the duration of the employment**; and,
