Join Police Digital Service as Data Services Manager (Permanent)
- £55,000 - £60,000
The Data Services Manager is a member of the Data Services team for PDS and will report to the Data Analytics Senior Manager. You will also be part of the wider Digital, Data & Technology (DDaT) team within PDS.
As the Data Services Manager, you will support our efforts in the implementation and delivery of services to support policing’s effort in delivering the National Policing Digital Strategy.
You will work closely with the Data Services Management Team and be responsible for supporting the services required for achieving the outcomes set out in the Data Strategy which is owned by the National Police Data Board (NPDB).
Key Responsibilities
- Coordinate and collaborate with the data communities across local Police Forces in England and Wales, Police Scotland, Police Services Northern Ireland and other UK Policing bodies and Law Enforcement agencies, e.g., the operational Policing portfolios in the NPCC.
- Manage relationships and support stakeholders across UK Policing, to drive innovation and add value to the forces by understanding their data priorities and challenges.
- Work closely with and provide support to the Data Services Management Team, ensuring they are appropriately briefed with respect to the data workstreams, while being empowered to drive these activities forward.
- Define new relationships and responsibilities for data to drive a high-performing data culture, where data-sharing and quality are optimal; establish and/or support data governance and organisation structures at the national level.
- Develop and support data services and capabilities for to be consumed by UK Policing
- Manage relationships with stakeholders to articulate the importance of data, gain ownership and demonstrate the benefits of a data-driven culture.
- Work with and support PDS’s DPO, local force DPOs as well as DPOs in NPCC to drive better alignment and standardisation of Data & Analytics approaches.
- Work with PDS’s Business Engagement and Communications teams to enable adoption of data approaches by Police Forces and NPCC portfolios.
Key Criteria
- Experience in data roles, with proven experience in Data Governance, Data Management, Data Quality, Data Sharing, Data Acquisition and Data Standards.
- Previous experience in understanding and implementing data frameworks & processes.
- Understanding of the technology industry offering in the data space.
- Knowledge of data performance, risk and issue reporting and escalation; experience in developing key performance indicators (KPIs) and their purpose in a data context.
- Understanding of the requirements to support the “offensive” aspects of data e.g., Data Quality, Data Catalogues, Business Ownership of Data, Data Standards and Taxonomies, Reference Data & Master Data Management, Data Lineage.
- Excellent communication skills, written and verbal, as well as presentation and negotiation skills. Ability to speak in plain English and to effectively engage with the senior Law Enforcement stakeholder community with varying data skills.
- Stakeholder engagement and relationship management, problem solving and building trust are all essential requirements for this role.
- High standards—you will know what good looks like and want to deliver it.
- Awareness of the data industry: trends, innovation and best practices.
- Security clearance level: NPPV3 and SC (this is not a prerequisite and can be applied for following a provisional offer of employment).
