Job description

About BCIS

We’re here to help our clients make informed and cost-effective decisions, with the support of trusted, independent data. We make this happen through our software products, which put thousands of construction industry-related figures at our clients’ fingertips. Our team of analysts, who produce and continuously update our data, have a combined total of over 260 years’ experience working with construction and built environment data at BCIS – their knowledge and expertise ensures we are the best at what we do.

Nearly 40% of global greenhouse emissions come from the built environment. And if we don’t do anything about it, this is predicted to double by 2050. That’s why we’re also committed to de-bunking many of the common myths surrounding carbon in the construction industry, to ensure our customers have the information they need to reduce carbon emissions throughout the lifecycle of their building.

Why work with us

We believe people perform betterwhen they’re valued as individuals. This is why we’ve established a flexible working culture that takes our employees’ wellbeing and their priorities outside of work into consideration. Every single one of our employees has the option to work from home for part or all of their workweek. However, we appreciate that people enjoy a mix of working environments, which is why we have a London-based office available for use. And we make sure the entire team meet up in person, at least twice a year, to socialise and stay connected.

Please note - all applicants MUST currently live and have the right to work in the UK. Applicants who do not meet these criteria will be rejected.

Our prioritisation of our people and their wellbeing is reflected in our incredible employee benefits package, which includes:

  • Private healthcare insurance with Vitality, which includes Headspace membership and other rewards
  • A generous annual leave allowance starting at 25 days, and rising with length of service to a max of 32 days (in addition to all UK bank holidays)
  • A wellbeing day, taken on a day of your choice each year
  • Life insurance – 3x annual salary paid to nominee(s)
  • Income protection in the event of long-term sickness absence
  • Enhanced employer pension contributions which will match employee contributions up to 5%
  • Enhanced maternity, paternity and adoption pay
  • Occupational sick pay
  • Paid compassionate leave
  • Incentivised employee recognition and reward schemes

An equal opportunities employer, we’re committed to Diversity, Equity and Inclusion and ensure those values are reflected in our approach to everything we do.

About the role

Following private equity funding by Lloyds Development Capital, we're able to refresh and develop our data and software to break new ground with our product offering. To ensure we are able to gather, display and interpret quantitative and numerical data, spot trends and make predictions to facilitate delivery of new and innovative products, we are seeking to hire an experienced Data Scientist/ Statistician to join our team.

You will be central to ensuring the product creation project’s success. Your involvement will be to review and redevelop our current statistical approach to modelling/forecasting, giving new capabilities to what our product can do. Beyond project completion, your long-term goal is to continuously review and update the models in place behind our software, to ensure they stay current in the ever-changing construction data climate.

No prior experience working with construction data? No problem. During your onboarding, you will liaise with construction sector experts to learn about the data relationships that our models are based on. We’ll make sure you’re brought up to speed with everything you need to know so that, after your first couple of weeks, you can hit the ground running.

You will have a high level of autonomy and so need to feel comfortable in directing your own workload whilst working to tight deadlines with high stakes. If you are driven, thrive under pressure, enjoy having the freedom to self-direct, and have a proven record of accomplishment as a Data Scientist/Statistician, this is the right role for you.
