Summary:
As a Data Scientist, you will work with the Data Science team to solve problems and provide insights for surfers everywhere. Projects can include computer vision applied to our camera network, improvements to our physical modeling efforts, or processing watch sensor data. Our problems are complex, challenging, and unique, and we have a roadmap that we believe will create a significant positive impact for our customers. You will contribute to this roadmap, along with the rest of the team, and collaborate with product, forecasting, and engineering teams to formulate and build innovative products.
Under Surfline’s “Work from Anywhere” policy, this position may be performed on a full-time remote basis from anywhere within the United Kingdom.
What You'll Do:
- Analyze data covering a wide range of information, from buoys to camera footage to watch sensor data.
- Conduct hypothesis-driven exploratory analysis, build feature engineering, design the best structure, and select the most appropriate modeling techniques from a variety of machine-learning models.
- Optimize data collection procedures to ensure timeliness and accuracy.
- Process, cleanse, and validate the integrity of data used in our products.
- Contribute as a team member to key data science projects.
What We're Looking For:
- Master’s degree or PhD in Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics, Physics, or a similar degree.
- Extensive experience with Python and version control systems (e.g., Git).
- Hands-on experience with data analytics and classical machine-learning tools (e.g., pandas, NumPy, scikit-learn) and deep learning frameworks (e.g., TensorFlow, PyTorch).
- Strong understanding of statistical analysis.
- Exceptional problem-solving skills and ability to learn/adapt to new technologies.
- Genuine interest in deriving datasets that help answer the questions surfers ask.
You May Also Have:
- Understanding of cloud technologies (e.g., Azure, AWS).
- A passion for surfing or other ocean-going activities.
- Passion for building compelling product experiences.
