Job description
At Seatfrog, we're shaking up the rail industry with our innovative platform, changing the game for rail operators and passengers alike. We were the first to market with our solution which enables rail operators to sell unsold first-class seat; generating ancillary revenue and providing passengers with incredible upgrade deals.
We've come a long way since then. We’ve revolutionised the way people can travel by rail; expanded our platform allowing passengers to buy train tickets, and swap their trains at the last minute all at the click of a few buttons. But we're not done yet - we have more exciting products on the way that will transform the way people experience rail travel.
Looking for the next stop on your career journey? As the Data Scientist you’ll directly impact our client partnerships and profitability; you will consult on client requests, run experiments, analyse and present results, and provide recommendations. You’ll be commercially minded, proactively looking for ways to add value whether through building new products or enhancing existing ones by way of performance analysis. As well as being data driven, you’ll have a knack for communicating across a wide range of stakeholders, some of whom will be non-technical; so not only will you be used to making complex concepts accessible, you’ll also help clients figure out what they really need when they’re not quite sure themselves. We’ve outlined a few pointers around what we’re looking for below, but we still want to hear from you even if you don’t think you hit 100% of the criteria; we don’t want perfection to stand in the way of greatness!
You’ll:
- Work closely with data and software engineering, working laterally across teams and pitching in on wider projects
- Understand and process GDPR requests so knowledge around data privacy is desirable
- Work with cloud services to run code and build products
- Collaborate with machine learning and find ways to leverage machine learning to solve business problems.
- Solve problems using mathematical and computational optimisation
- Work with high performance computing in languages other than Python to solve problems
We’re looking for experience with:
- Statistical analysis
- Designing experiments and interpreting the results, whilst also being able to give recommendations that will further the business
- Engaging with non-technical (or people that don’t know data science) stakeholders
- Client and stakeholder engagement
- Machine learning projects, and the ability to take them end-to-end
- Genetic algorithms to solve optimisation problems
- Revenue management and pricing, particular in relation to auctions and/or betting
The tech stack:
- We work with Python and SQL, but there are opportunities to use Rust and occasionally some C++ for legacy code
- We use AWS, with ECS, EC2, MWAA, DynamoDb, S3, Redshift, and EMR
- Our Data Science related Python packages are scikit-learn, xgboost, Pandas, and NumPy
- And we also use Spark (in conjunction with EMR), Snowflake, dbt, and Tableau
