To achieve this, we have built an internal analytics capability, the Petcare Analytics Group, that creates value by helping our business to make better decisions that improve pet welfare, enable a brilliant customer experience and optimise the working practices of our colleagues and partners.


About the role

As part of our expansion of the Petcare Analytics Group, we are looking for a Data Scientist to join our existing Data Science team.

As a Data Scientist, you will help deliver transformational projects centred around predictive modelling, optimisation and marketing personalisation.

Key responsibilities will include:

  • Providing thought-provoking analytics from a large range of internal and external data sources to inform and guide strategic debate at all levels within our business. This will be across all functions in the Pets at Home Group
  • Delivering evidence-based stories in a compelling way that enables stakeholders to take action
  • Being a domain expert and a technical authority within the Advanced Analytics function. Maintaining a commercial mindset and identifying opportunities that are mutually beneficial for our businesses and their customers
  • Identifying process and data quality improvements and partnering with other areas of the Petcare Analytics Group to continually improve our business and VIP loyalty scheme data
  • Proactively feeding back to the business analysis and data products that lead to improved understanding and operational efficiencies. Curating a knowledge bank that can assist other business functions
  • Sharing knowledge, technical best practice and outcomes to develop more junior members of the Data Science Team and other teams that you partner with. Taking a leading role in the technical development of others


About your experience

You'll have a proven ability and experience of applying Data Science techniques to create commercial value, ideally from within a consumer-centric business.

Strong SQL skills and extensive experience of working with large-scale data warehouses is essential. You'll also have experience of analytical programming languages such as R/ Python/ Scala.

Further key experience/attributes includes;

  • Demonstrable experience with core data science methods such as classification, regression, time series forecasting, clustering, nearest neighbour, neural networks, embeddings, dimensionality reduction and anomaly detection.
  • Experience with Geographic Information Systems and an understanding of geospatial analytics methods is (desirable but not essential)
  • Experience with attribution modelling within a marketing context (desirable but not essential)
  • Highly numerate with a solid understanding of statistics and the ability to translate complex analysis to non-technical stakeholders.
  • Demonstrable experience of managing end-to-end data science projects, from understanding business needs, combining relevant data sources and building solutions, to creating commercial success through measurable deployment
