Reporting to the Head of Data Innovation and AI, this is a fantastic opportunity to join the team as we embark on transforming the organisation through a product-led, data-driven strategy, and a business that is hungry for the opportunities that this will bring. As our Lead Data Scientist you'll have the opportunity to make a tremendous impact both on our brands' and our own loyalty programmes and add measurable value to a growing business through the use of data.

You'll use your proven experience in delivering data products, strong stakeholder management, and your advanced data science and analytics skills to bring thought-leadership and define the processes and standards for data science across the business to support our growing team of data scientists and the wider data teams at IAGL.

You'll relish the opportunity to bring leadership in the areas of advanced data science and Machine Learning, lead data science initiatives and proof-of-concepts in collaboration with senior stakeholders across Product and Data, teams inside airlines (BA, Aer Lingus, Vueling and Iberia) and with partners (academia, vendors, 3rd party data suppliers).

You'll also add value by:

• Defining the overall strategy and direction for implementing advance data science techniques to provide a competitive edge and drive innovation across IAGL
• As a subject matter expert in data science, you will be providing the technical expertise, guidance and training to the rest of our data colleagues
• Being at the forefront of emerging technologies, techniques and methodologies in data science you will enable research and development efforts within the team by exploring new AI algorithms, ML and deep learning models as well as the use of new tech stacks
• Championing and evolving our Data Science practice at IAGL, and represent and promote data science across IAG operating companies
• Working closely with our stakeholders to find data-led solutions that have tangible commercial implications for the business by either reducing cost by optimizing existing processes or delivering new incremental revenue streams

About you:

We're looking for someone who can deliver data science capabilities to our business quickly and work alongside other data colleagues in our next-generation analytics journey. With skills to consult and advise, you're able to assimilate, digest and communicate back complex ideas to others from both technical and non-technical backgrounds, especially at senior management level. You're fully up-to-date on the advanced data science and machine learning landscape and architecture, the pertinent approaches and the regulations.

You'll also have:

• Mental resilience and intellectual humility and be willing to explore new ways of solving a problem and have the courage to step out of your comfort zone
• Experience in building and leading a data science team within a scaling or mature organisation
• Master's/PhD in STEM (Mathematics, Computer Science, Physics, Engineering)
• Excellent knowledge of data science tools and one or more scripting languages, including, Python, R, AWS Sagemaker, SQL and production tools such as Airflow, Kubeflow
• Proficiency in data science and machine learning packages, including deep learning modelling tools e.g. pandas, scikit-learn tensorflow, keras, Pytorch
• Significant experience deploying machine learning models to production systems
• Familiarity with cloud development environments and cloud deployments of machine learning models
• Excellent communication and collaboration skills to partner with Product Owners and business heads
• We are transitioning the business through Agile delivery methods, so a working knowledge and experience of Agile, Scrum and Jira would also be of use
• Comfortable working in an environment where change is constant and undergoing transformation

This role will be based out of IAGL's London Victoria office. We have a flexible working policy where a blended approach is encouraged, with the focus on being in the correct location for the work that needs to be undertaken. This will involve a mix of office and home working
