About the Role

The Data Modeller Manager is a leadership role responsible for overseeing the design, development, and implementation of data integration and ETL or ELT (Extract, Transform, Load) processes within the Business Intelligence (BI) environment.

The role will focus on leveraging the benefits of Azure Data Factory to build robust and scalable data pipelines, ensuring the availability of accurate and timely data for reporting and analysis purposes.

The Data Modeller Manager will lead a small team of Data Modeller(s), working closely and collaborating with stakeholders to provide strategic guidance for BI initiatives. The role will work closely with business stakeholders, data engineers, and data analysts to ensure the availability of accurate and timely data for reporting and analysis purposes.


What you'll be doing ?

  • The role is responsible in providing guidance, mentorship, and support. Set objectives, monitor performance, and build a strong and high-performing work environment. Identify training needs and promoting professional development opportunities for the team and business users.
  • The role will drive Modelling Strategy and development Roadmap. Collaborating with stakeholders, including business leaders, data analysts, and IT teams, to define and execute the Data Modelling strategy and roadmap. Aligning development initiatives with organisational goals, ensuring data integration solutions meet business requirements and drive value.
  • Drive the implementation and utilisation of Azure Data Factory as the primary data integration tool. Define and enforce best practices for configuring pipelines, datasets, linked services and triggers. Define best practice rules that ensure effective utilisation of data extraction capabilities for data transformation and data enrichment.
  • Design and develop data integration solutions using Azure Data Factory, ensuring the efficient extraction, transformation, and loading of data from various sources into data warehouses or data lakes. Develop and implement ETL workflows, data pipelines, and data extraction processes to facilitate data movement across different systems.
  • Manage, in conjunction with the IT Project Manager and IT Test Analyst, the end-to-end delivery of Data Modeling development projects. Activities include requirements gathering and solution design to development, testing, and deployment. Collaborate on project plans, review resources, track progress, and ensure timely delivery of high-quality solutions. Mitigate risks and resolve project-related issues effectively.
  • Provide technical expertise in Azure Data Factory and data integration landscape. Collaborate with developers to design scalable and efficient data pipelines, ensuring best practice guidelines are followed, data quality targets are met, and solution performance is optimised. Act as a subject matter expert, guiding the team on best practices and troubleshooting issues.
  • Engage with business stakeholders, including senior management, to understand their data integration needs and align development efforts accordingly. Communicate project updates, gather feedback, and manage expectations. Foster strong relationships with key stakeholders to promote data-driven decision-making and business success.
  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives for the Data Modelling development processes, methodologies, and tools. Identify opportunities to streamline workflows, enhance data integration efficiency, and improve data quality. Stay up to date with industry trends and advancements in Data Modelling technologies, recommending innovations that can drive business value.
  • Implement data governance practices and ensure compliance with data security and privacy regulations. Work closely with the Compliance team to establish and enforce data integration standards, data lineage, and metadata management practices within Azure Data Factory.
  • Document data integration processes, data mappings, and data lineage within Azure Data Factory. Prepare technical documentation, including specifications, design documents, and operational procedures.

About You

  • Experience as a BI Developer or similar role, with hands-on experience in designing and developing data integration solutions using either Azure Data Factory or Cognos
  • Preferably strong proficiency in Azure Data Factory, including configuring pipelines, datasets, linked services, and triggers. Experience with data flow development and data transformation using Azure Data Factory would be preferred.
  • A solid understanding of ETL principles, data integration patterns, and best practices. Experience with data ingestion, extraction, transformation, and loading from various sources such as databases, APIs, files, and cloud services.
  • Proficient in SQL and relational databases. Experience with data modeling, SQL scripting, and performance tuning. Familiarity with data warehousing concepts and technologies is essential.
  • Understanding of data governance practices, data security, and compliance requirements. Knowledge of data privacy regulations, such as GDPR and experience implementing data governance frameworks is desirable.
  • Strong problem-solving abilities with a focus on data-related challenges. Ability to analyse complex data scenarios, identify root causes, and propose effective solutions. Attention to detail and a commitment to data quality
  • Must possess excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to work collaboratively across various levels of the business.
