Research Data Management Coordinator

This position will be located in the University Library, with the responsibility for coordinating university stakeholders to advance research data management support across the campus. As one of Canada’s leading research libraries, the University Library serves as the intellectual hub of the University of Saskatchewan, providing resources, services, and spaces that facilitate inquiry, discovery and knowledge creation.


Primary Purpose: You will lead the implementation of the USask Institutional RDM Strategy and ongoing coordination of RDM services offered by campus-wide service centres (e.g., Library, Office of the Vice President Research, Information & Communication Technology, Office of the Vice Provost Indigenous Engagement, Research Ethics Board; hereafter referred to as “service centres”) to ensure researcher-centric support for students, faculty, and staff. Nature of Work: You will collaborate with service centres and leaders from across the campus, particularly in the Library, Office of the Vice-President Research, Office of the Vice Provost Indigenous Engagement, and Information and Communications Technology. You will be based in the University Library as part of the Research Support Services division.



Typical Duties or Accountabilities:

  • Lead the development and implementation of the University's distributed RDM service model, integrating the offerings from multiple USask service centres
  • Champion the USask institutional RDM strategy and coordinate its multi-year implementation in collaboration with relevant offices and service centres across campus
  • Lead the formation and coordination of a cohesive, researcher-centric RDM support team comprised of employees from relevant service centres
  • Interpret existing and emerging RDM policies/guidelines, and their implications for the development and delivery of RDM services at USASK.
  • Review and evolve the institutional RDM strategy in collaboration with service centres to ensure they continue to meet the RDM needs of researchers and the Tri-Agency RDM Policy
  • Identify where additional RDM investments in capital and staffing would best serve the USask research community
  • Develop metrics to measure the success of USask RDM services, and, over time, lead the continuous improvement of these services
  • Foster mutually beneficial relationships with university senior leaders, Indigenous stakeholders, and the University community
  • Lead change using positive and collaborative methods

Experience: A proven record of experience and accomplishment leading, managing, and supporting large-scale initiatives, preferably in a research environment.

Demonstrated familiarity with, or interest, in the following:

  • leading complex projects, preferably in a post-secondary environment
  • Indigenous data governance, sovereignty and stewardship, and/or the frameworks and principles of Indigenous-led research
  • research data management relevant to one or more scholarly disciplines

Demonstrated familiarity with, or interest in, one or more of the following, is an asset:

  • the Tri-Agency Research Data Management Policy and the broader policies, guidelines, and standards that inform research data management
  • issues related to research data management in the post-secondary research environment (e.g., infrastructure, ethics, data sharing)

Skills:

  • Creative mindset and positive outlook, and enjoyment of challenge and complexity
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills, sensitive to the needs and interests of diverse audiences, ranging from university senior leaders to individual administrators and researchers across disciplines
  • Excellent collaboration, relationship, and team building skills
  • Ability to exercise judgment, tact, diplomacy, and confidentiality
  • Knowledge of university procedures and practices is an asset.
