Data & Insights Associate
Department: Customer Excellence
Line manager position title: Insights & Analytics Manager
Location: Paddington, London, UK
Role Objective
The Data & Insights Associate works in partnership with the Insights & Analytics (I&A) team and with a Business Unit (BU) in Takeda UK & Ireland (UKIE) to inform and improve commercial strategy. This individual will understand and anticipate the needs of the business, translating this into effective business analysis by using an appropriate mix of secondary data, primary market research and competitor analysis. These analyses support a range of activities, including monitoring and improvement of commercial campaigns, input into strategic market planning, and revenue forecasting. The Data & Insights Associate translates and communicates their analyses into actionable recommendations to appropriate stakeholders. The Data & Insights Associate will contribute actively to the broader I&A team, including the sharing of best practices.
50% of the role will be dedicated to supporting the Gastrointestinal (GI) Business Unit on I&A Activities (alongside the I&A Manager GI), and the other 50% will be dedicated to Takeda’s data warehouse (Enterprise Data Backbone – EDB) and advanced analytics (supporting the Data & Insights Manager who has ownership of the data warehouse).
Key accountabilities of the role
- To conduct and interpret market and brand analysis (using national and regional level data where appropriate) for the development of strategic and operational brand plans. To provide Competitive Intelligence to allow Takeda UKIE to anticipate changes in the market landscape and begin to shape the environment to their competitive advantage.
- Monitor the performance of individual brands through management and analysis of key performance indicators (KPIs) and communicate results and recommendations to the brand teams.
- Driving the development and enhancement of Reports/ Dashboards (both in-house an in partnership with external partners) to monitor Business Performance
- To provide analytical and research outputs as required supporting business decisions on promoted products within the organisation’s portfolio. Takeda maintains a UK & Ireland data warehouse that drives reporting and dashboarding for all commercial stakeholders. The Data & Insights Associate will maintain and improve relevant aspects of this system in close collaboration with their colleagues in I&A (particularly the Data & Insights Manager).
- Managing relationships with a diverse set of stakeholders from the Global, Regional, and Country level, as well as with External Partners
- Managing data warehouse tasks: report access in Power BI and in our Reporting Hub SharePoint, managing monthly data loads (supported by external partner), quality control, and troubleshooting.
- Develop a pro-active market research/project plan (with support) for each brand which aligns with Takeda’s business needs. Design, commission and manage market research (with coaching/ support) or other third-party analysis necessary for the development of the brand covering aspects of strategy and promotional campaign implementation.
- To provide support in specific projects as well as back up within the Customer Excellence team as required.
- To rapidly learn and develop new skills, and to keep up with developments in data, analytics, and the pharmaceutical industry environment.
Key knowledge and/ or experience needed
- Strong analytical aptitude is essential (numeracy or a quantitative focus demonstrated in educational or professional history)
- Emerging presentation skills, aims to communicate technical material in a non-technical manner
- Experience in a data-related, quantitative, or technical role. Power BI experience desired, or alternatively a closely related reporting tool (e.g. Tableau or Qlik, advanced MS Excel). Forecasting experience or market research experience is desirable.
- Some understanding of pharmaceutical data is desirable (e.g., IQVIA, Wilmington, Cegedim, NHS data, in-market, and ex-factory sales data).
- Ability to deliver training sessions on using Power BI (and other EDB data warehouse tools) to business users.
- Emerging business acumen and curiosity around effective marketing and sales strategy in the pharmaceutical industry
