And right now, we are looking for Data Engineers to join Saga’s Data Engineering Team. “This is an opportunity for someone who has transferable skills and a keen interest in Data Engineering and is looking to move into the field.” You will be working in one of the three workstreams: Data Integration, Data Platform and Data Transformation. You will be using your technical skills, knowledge & experience to obtain data directly to interpret, structure and manage to make them available for analytics users.
Reporting into the Data Architect & Engineering Manager, you will be consulting with business stakeholders on a regular basis to identify data sources, usage, and refresh rates in order to help gather requirements for data build. You will be helping to implement Data Governance controls in our Single Customer View (SCV), our data warehouse for customer insights. You will also be providing documentation on codes delivered for data ingest and structuring routines.

Main ResponsibilitiesAs a Data Engineer your responsibilities will be:
- Utilising data lake, Snowflake, related technologies, and applications to help deliver our new SCV
- Working with other technologists to design and build pipelines and data engineering components to deliver requirements
- Ensuring the build adheres to standards & policies set by Data Governance & InfoSec
- Testing and monitoring data flows, report & fix any issues
- Advising on, and contributing to projects & delivery planning for data engineering elements
- Working with other Commercial, Data & Pricing teams to help train and migrate them to use the same SCV platform and toolset
- Helping to optimise processes, for example, automation of existing manual processes
- Following our Governance and Business Code of Conduct and always acting with integrity and due diligence
- Continually looking for innovative ways to make improvements based on the latest trends and research
- Networking to stay connected with business trends and changes
- Managing stakeholders and external providers effectively
- Staying up to-date through internal and external events and sharing best practice with colleagues.
- Working collaboratively with colleagues across the business to support Saga’s strategic initiatives.
- Previous experience of working with large complex data engineering projects.
- Experience with designing and developing ETL pipelines.
- Technical knowledge of data engineering techniques and concepts including data ingestion, processing, and storage.
- Working knowledge of Programming and Query Languages – particularly SQL.
- Experience with MS Azure data storage, management, and analytics apps.
- Prior experience with cloud based analytical tools like Snowflake and data visualisation tools like Tableau is highly advantageous.
- Excellent communication and technical presentation skills.
- Able to work methodically under pressure and working to tight deadlines.
- Proactive, resilient, and focussed on business objectives.
- Ability to multi-task and work across a range of projects and issues with various timelines and priorities.
- Able to work in a flexible and agile environment.
