Data Engineer

We have an exciting opportunity to join the Data & Analytics team as a Data Engineer reporting to the Lead Data Engineer. The primary focus of the role will centre around developing, maintaining, and testing infrastructures for data generation and extraction. The successful candidate will be responsible for developing data pipelines and optimizing data systems; building them from the ground up to be utilised in production environments for the BI teams and other wider business areas to consume. They must have a passion for all things data and be comfortable supporting the data needs of multiple teams, systems and products. The right candidate will be enthusiastic about and enjoy the prospect of optimizing and assisting with the design or and development of the company’s data environment to support the next generation of products and data driven initiatives.
What does the role of Data Engineer involve?
- Create and maintain optimal data pipeline architecture
- Assemble large, complex data sets that meet functional/non-functional business requirements
- Identify, design, and implement internal process improvements: automating manual processes, optimizing data delivery, and re-designing infrastructure for greater scalability.
- Build the infrastructure required for optimal extraction, transformation, and loading of data from a wide variety of data sources using SQL and Azure technologies.
- Build analytics tools that utilize the data pipeline to provide actionable insights into customer acquisition, operational efficiency and other key business performance metrics.
- Work closely with stakeholders including Senior Business Leaders, Strategy, and BI teams to assist with data-related technical solutions and support their data infrastructure needs.
- Create data tools for analytics and data scientist that assist in building and optimizing our data offering to become an innovative industry leader.
- Work with data and analytics experts to strive for greater functionality and usability in our data systems.
What do you need to succeed in the role of Data Engineer?
- Experienced Data Engineer or similar role within a Data/BI team
- Experience of developing and building data pipelines and datasets
- Knowledge of optimal required data formats for modelling within Power BI
- Expert SQL knowledge
- Strong commercial knowledge & excellent stakeholder management skills
- Experience with Azure technologies (Data Factory, Logic Apps, Databricks) or very proficient with Microsoft BI Stack with ability to develop skills within Azure environment
- Desire to learn new technologies and appetite to stay up to date with the latest developments
- Strong ETL capability with proficiency in API’s, SFTP, ADF, other
- Good knowledge of data warehousing and how to structure data environments
- Technical expertise with data models, data mining, and data segmentation
- Knowledge of Python and other programming languages desirable but not essential
