Job Description:
About the role
As a Data Consultant in our Data Centre of Excellence, you’ll contribute to and support the delivery of key data-related activities across three main areas – data engineering, data analysis, and data management – to provide trusted, quality data to drive data-driven decision making to realise business objectives.
Your duties and responsibilities in this role will consist of:
- Support the Enterprise Data Delivery Team by contributing to the data analysis and modelling that supports the delivery of structured and conformed datasets across multiple data sources for the delivery of standardised, reusable, and trusted datasets to enable a consistent understanding of our business.
- Contribute to and support the Enterprise Data Management team in the adoption and continuous improvement of NFU Mutual’s data management and governance framework to ensure that the data is fit for purpose and can be trusted to drive data driven decision making to support the realisation of business objectives.
- Contribute to the effective management of at least one of the strategic data domains, implementing NFU Mutual’s enterprise-wide approach to data management to ensure all relevant artefacts and systems are kept up to date, escalating and seeking advice where needed.
- Facilitate the analysis and assurance of datasets, reports, and dashboards developed on the Shared Data Platform to assess them against the trusted data assurance criteria to provides users with confidence that the data they are using is fit for purpose.
- Contribute to the impact assessment and appropriate resolution of known and new data issues and remediation activity across the organisation by carrying our root cause analysis and providing the relevant fixes to ensure NFU Mutual’s data is fit for purpose.
- Build, develop, and maintain effective working relationships with business stakeholders and the relevant IT team(s) to ensure quality business data outputs can be effectively delivered and supported.
- Deliver short term/one-off projects and activities as required by and to the standards and outcomes agreed with Line Manager.
Qualifications:
- A minimum of five GCSEs grade A – C (9 – 4) which must include Maths and English
- A Level 3 qualification achieved by one of the following: A levels, NVQ/SVQ Level 3, or a BTEC National
- A degree would be advantageous but not essential.

- Have a passion for data.
- Demonstrable ability to create and maintain effective working relationships with stakeholders.
- Strong communication, interpersonal and influencing skills.
- Motivation to develop and learn.
- Strength in numeracy, analysis and problem solving.
- Strong attention to detail.
Skills Required:
- Advanced Excel skills.
- Any previous experience of SQL, Power BI would be advantageous but not essential.
Future prospects:
The role with NFU Mutual is a permanent position. Candidates who successfully complete the apprenticeship and meet the required knowledge, skills and behaviours as outlined in a competency matrix, will have a clear development path to progress into more senior positions within the department.
Training to be provided:
BPP apprenticeship training programmes are delivered virtually by our fully-qualified and industry experienced training team. Using their expert knowledge, we’ve purposefully built our programmes around the real-world use of modern technology, so that the skills we create can be directly applied in the workplace.
Throughout the apprenticeship learners receive coaching, help and guidance from a dedicated team who are there to ensure they get the most from their work experience.
Successful completion of this apprenticeship gives you an accredited Level 4 Data Analyst qualification, with training in how to:
- Ascertain how data can be used to answer questions and solve problems.
- Gather, inspect, cleanse, transform and model data to identify patterns and trends.
- Present data and produce dashboards and reports to aid visualization and comparison.
- Use advanced theory and diverse techniques to harness greater understanding.
- Inform decision-making and make recommendations using an evidence-based approach.
- Ensure your business processes and procedures are compliant with data protection legislation.
