The Opportunity


At the core of Railsr is our data platform. We believe that data can and should empower people to make better decisions across our organisation. We also need data to deliver regulatory reporting essential to our operations.

In this role you will be shaping how we use data from every part of our business, working closely with data analysts, engineers & senior stakeholders to get value from data, and reporting to the head of Data and Analytics.


Responsibilities:


  • Data Collection and Integration: Gathering data from various sources, such as databases, APIs, or spreadsheets, and integrating it into a centralised data repository or data warehouse.
  • You will be working with Looker, Snowflake and DBT
  • You will work closely with data engineers to deliver high quality data models and expose into Looker (delivering key dashboards and allowing others to self-serve)
  • Data Cleaning and Preprocessing: Identifying and addressing inconsistencies, errors, and missing values in the data. Applying data cleaning techniques, such as outlier detection, data imputation, and normalisation, to ensure data quality.
  • Data Analysis and Interpretation: Conducting exploratory data analysis to discover patterns, trends, and insights. Applying statistical methods and data visualisation techniques to analyse data and present findings effectively.
  • Report Generation in Looker: Creating regular and ad-hoc reports that summarise data analysis results, key performance indicators, and other relevant metrics. Developing visually appealing and informative dashboards to track and monitor data trends.
  • Data Validation and Quality Assurance: Ensuring data accuracy and reliability by performing rigorous validation tests. Developing and implementing quality control procedures to identify data anomalies and discrepancies.
  • Process Improvement: Identifying opportunities to streamline data collection, analysis, and reporting processes.

Skills & Experience


  • Degree educated, ideally in a STEM subject or strong professional experience in this area
  • Technical:
    • Advanced SQL skills (e.g. window functions, Snowflake experience preferred)
    • Data modelling experience (dbt and Looker an advantage)
    • Dashboard building experience with BI Tools such as Looker (preferred), Tableau, Power BI. Your dashboards have a clear purpose and are user-friendly.
    • Data exploration - ability to interrogate data to understand its structure and potential quality issues
  • Everything else
    • Great problem framing, problem solving & critical thinking skills
    • You can structure projects effectively
    • Excellent communicator & presenter (with internal, external, technical, non-technical audiences)
  • Desirable:
    • Experience in a FinTech, financial services or payments environment
    • Version control tools (e.g. GitLab, GitHub) & associated workflow
    • JIRA & agile methodology experience
