The role

The Data Analyst is a key role both within our Finance team but also in supporting other key stakeholders with our business intelligence needs. With 1.3m household customers, there is a real depth of data that can be leveraged to optimise business decisions and/or deliver commercial benefit.

Whilst there are routine tasks that support the daily activities of the business, much of the role is focussed on supporting our evolving needs.

Key responsibilities will include:

  • Ensuring the scheduled daily business reports run as intended
  • Managing the interface requirements between dependent systems to ensure data consistency
  • Working with key business contacts, both internally and with our clients Bristol Water and Wessex Water, to support with their data and management information needs
  • Supporting Bristol Water and Wessex Water Customer Policy teams in providing new industry reporting needs as defined by Ofwat and other regulatory bodies
  • Designing front end dashboards to aid the interpretation of complex data
  • Proactive interrogation of our data to identify opportunities for improvement – this could include commercial gain, business efficiency, data quality, etc
  • Effective management of the pipeline of requests to ensure work is prioritised appropriately
  • Management and development of a junior data analyst

We are also investing in a new Microsoft Dynamics based billing system which is due to go live in 2024. The Data Analyst will play a key role in the transition from our legacy system, supporting with the migration of existing reports but also utilising the opportunity to enhance what we have.

About you

You are already a highly competent analyst with excellent SQL / Excel skills and have a passion for adding value. You work effectively with stakeholders to help translate complex business needs into workable solutions that can be delivered within what is often challenging timescales, presenting options where required.

You utilise other business metrics to sense check the outputs of the work you do, ensuring the accuracy of all work that is performed. This is complimented by a great attention to detail.

Whilst you enjoy supporting new projects, you recognise that the regular daily reporting is integral to the business being able to operate effectively, whilst still looking for improvement opportunities through regular contact with end users.

You recognise the importance of communication and will always ask the right questions to ensure what is delivered meets the business need. You always ensure that people are kept informed of progress.

You are curious and will utilise any spare capacity within the team to proactively seek out tangible insights which could benefit the business.

Above all, whilst you are great at what you do, you are also a team player with a genuine desire to develop others.
