Senior Data Analyst

The role
We're seeking a Senior Data Analyst who is passionate about using data to drive business decisions. This role is perfect for someone who loves digging through the data weeds to uncover the gems that lie beneath then packaging these insights into a narrative.
If you have deep experience in data analytics and enjoy working closely with internal stakeholders to deliver insights, then we’d love to speak with you. In this role, you'll be a champion of analytics best practices and data-driven decision-making across ONB.
Collaborating with teams throughout the bank, you'll develop analysis that enables our business to make faster, more informed decisions. We're not just looking for someone who can answer complex analytical questions but also someone who can understand complex business needs and deliver the insights we need to inform decisions to grow the bank.
In addition to using your expertise to deliver high-quality analysis you will guide and educate the broader business units in self-serve analytics, sometimes even training people in SQL and other relevant tools.
You'd join our Data and Analytics function as an immediate contributor. On day one, expect to dive in and make contributions to our data solutions. In month one, expect to be answering complex analytical questions for major data projects.
What you’d work on
The Data and Analytics function manages all internal data products and the data warehouse - our mission is to deliver analytics that will empower the broader business in decision-making and business intelligence. It’s a new team which is driving the OakNorth Bank data strategy and has many opportunities for exciting, greenfield projects.
As a Senior Data Analyst you will:
- Collaborate with teams to understand and analyse business requirements and translate them into insightful analysis
- Design, build and maintain top-tier analysis to support data-driven decision-making
- Work alongside our data engineers to ensure we’re meeting the business' data needs
What we're looking for:
- Significant experience in data analysis, with a focus on self-service analytics, storytelling with data and commercial acumen
- Strong expertise in SQL, Python data stack and ideally DBT and GCP.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work collaboratively with a range of teams
- Working understanding of data warehousing, data modelling, and data integration principles and curiosity to understand the full data stack

Our story
OakNorth Bank was built on the foundations of frustrations with old-school banking. In 2005, when our founders tried to get capital for their data analytics company, the computer said ‘no’. Unfortunately, all major banks in the UK were using the same computer – and it was broken.
Why was it so difficult for a profitable business with impressive cashflow, retained clients, and clear commercial success to get a loan?
The industry was backward-looking and too focused on historic financials, rather than future potential.
