The Education Insights, Data and Research team performs research, analyses, and reports data, and provides critical insights and recommendations to support decision makers across the education portfolio. The team comprises Research Specialists, Research Analysts as well as Data and Insight Specialists.
Reporting to the Director, the Data and Insight Specialist works with other members of the team to provide business intelligence for decision makers across campus. The Data and Insight Specialist applies their vast knowledge and essential skill in data handling and reporting to access data within institutional databases and produce business intelligence for use by stakeholders.
Key Responsibilities:
- Maintain relationships and support decision makers to make informed decisions and to operationalize education portfolio strategies.
- Collaborate with decision makers to establish metrics and key performance indicators related to their subjects of interest.
- Take a leadership role in developing reporting strategies and processes.
- Manage product backlog and make value-based decisions to prioritize projects and features.
- Provide timely reports, data analysis and assessments to decision makers.
- Through outreach, training, and consultation, support the creation of a data-literate, data-informed culture within the education portfolio.
- Gather requirements, design, construct, test, and deploy business intelligence and reporting solutions such as standardize reports, dashboards, exploratory views, and data exports. This work is focused on structured data in the data warehouse and student information systems.
- Maintain knowledge of business source systems and processes by maintaining contact with subject matter experts in key business areas
- Participate in working groups and committees to deliver essential projects.
- Ensures that projects follow best practice for data visualization, modelling, and data governance.
Skills & Abilities:
- Advanced skills with business intelligence tools such as PowerBI/DAX, SQL Server and Excel.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- In-depth knowledge of Post Secondary Institution reporting environment (Enterprise Data Warehouse and Peoplesoft Campus Solutions).
- Expert knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, and SharePoint).
- In-depth knowledge of Post Secondary Institution programs, policy and procedures, as well as Office of the Registrar’s business processes (Admissions, Records, Transfer and Recognition of Prior Learning).
- Strong written and verbal communication.
- Proven ability to build strong partnerships and to manage conflicts effectively.
- Understanding of agile methodologies, software development lifecycles, data modelling, and business intelligence approaches such as Kimball data warehouse.
Qualifications:
- A minimum of a bachelor’s degree plus at least 5 years of experience in data programming and reporting.
- Experience with post-secondary education and Peoplesoft Campus Solutions is essential.
Remuneration: $3,606.18 - $4,777.63 bi-weekly, plus a comprehensive benefits package.
