Job description

Please note this is a fixed term post for 12 months. Where a post only has temporary funding and an existing member of NHS Lanarkshire staff wishes to apply, this will be treated as a secondment. The employee MUST already have written agreement from their line manager to be released on a secondment before applying for the post.

We are seeking an individual to work as a Data Analyst in our Cancer Audit Team. Applicants should be educated to Degree level, or have equivalent experience in a data analysis role or a health-related IT role. Applicants must have excellent IT skills and have experience in the use of Business Objects, Power BI and relational databases. You will be required to develop NHS Lanarkshire Board level reports of the national Cancer Quality Performance Indicators(QPI). You will provide support and training to the Cancer Quality Coordinators in the ongoing development and maintenance of local QPI reports. You will also support the Quality Programme Manager in the re-development of a cancer case ascertainment tool and in the development of a cancer audit dashboard.

Key knowledge & skills required for the post
  • The ability to design, develop and implement IT solutions, using Business Objects, to extract data for analysis and reporting.
  • The ability to analyse and interpret large volume, complex data and develop clear and meaningful reports that can be used by multidisciplinary teams to drive improvement.
  • The confidence and ability to develop a network of contacts with external organisations such as PHS, NSS, WoSCAN, etc. in order to keep well-informed of wider audit and improvement activity across Scotland and beyond.
  • Previous experience working in a health service environment would be advantageous.
  • The ability to produce Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for systems and processes developed by the post holder and create functional and technical specifications for new systems and produce systems documentation.
  • Possess the ability to find ways of solving and/or pre-empting problems.
  • Have excellent communication skills with the ability to communicate effectively with both technical and non-technical people.
  • The post holder is expected to deliver on an agreed programme of work within set timescales and should keep their manager informed of any deviations from the plan.
