We’re the only national, non-profit organization that provides financing, mentorship and resources to aspiring business owners aged 18-39. Here’s the opportunity:
Futurpreneur is looking for an experienced Data & Insights Specialist to analyze a broad array of client and market data to glean valuable insights to improve Futurpreneur’s outreach, operations and entrepreneur support programs. Using their strong business acumen, the Data & Insights Specialist will collect data from different sources, extracting key business insights from and interpreting this data to help us reach and support young entrepreneurs. The ideal candidate will have mathematical and statistical expertise, along with natural curiosity and a creative mind. While mining, interpreting, and cleaning our data, this person will ask key questions, connect the dots, and uncover hidden opportunities for realizing our data’s full potential to help Futurpreneur improve our capacity to support diverse, young entrepreneurs.
Reporting to the Chief Financial Officer, the incumbent will work closely with many internal teams and senior leaders to present information using data visualization techniques for operating and also reporting purposes, both internally and externally with our funders.
This is a permanent, full-time position that can be located anywhere in Canada, though ideally in Toronto. The incumbent will be working on our hybrid work model (minimum 2 days in the office).
What you will be doing:
Research planning and execution
- Collaborate and meet with senior leadership and various teams such as Business Development, Client Service, Client Experience, Programs & Partnerships, Finance and Marketing & Communications to identify research needs and opportunities that support business objectives
- Lead the end-to-end process of designing and executing data research projects, including Futurpreneur’s annual survey of all current and past entrepreneur clients (conducted by a third party), encompassing data collection, thorough analysis, and comprehensive reporting. Utilize these insights to enhance our understanding of critical client dynamics, thereby enabling us to more effectively engage, empower, and equip our Young Entrepreneurs for success
- Develop and manage project timelines, budgets, and resources to ensure timely and successful completion of data projects
- Stay up-to-date with industry trends within the entrepreneurial ecosystem and data analytics including emerging technologies, and best practices in data research and analysis
Data collection
- Identify valuable data sources for business needs and enhance/automate the data collection processes
- Collect and gather data from various sources, including Futurpreneur's CRM database and Loans system, websites, surveys, and other relevant repositories, using appropriate tools and methods, such as web scraping, SQL queries, and API integrations, to ensure data completeness and relevance to the project goals
- Build and maintain relationships with external data providers and vendors to ensure the timely and accurate acquisition of relevant data for analysis and visualization purposes, including negotiating contracts, managing data licenses, and collaborating with data partners to improve data quality and accessibility
- Source missing data from systems and databases that are not integrated with our CRM, such as Loans system and publicly available sources such as Statistics Canada
Data analysis
- Develop and implement data models, such as conceptual, logical, and physical models, to represent complex datasets and business processes, and to facilitate data analysis, visualization, and decision-making. This includes selecting appropriate modeling techniques, tools, and software, and collaborating with cross-functional teams to ensure model accuracy and alignment with project objectives
- Analyze and interpret data (e.g. KPI, client-related data) to identify trends, insights, and opportunities to answer research and reporting questions that improve business performance
- Present research findings to senior management in a clear and concise manner including data visualizations techniques (such as charts, graphs, and interactive dashboards using Power BI, Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint, Dynamics CRM, while exploring new tools like Tableau, Googlecharts, Infogram) to effectively communicate complex data insights to stakeholders and decision makers
- Work with senior leadership and various teams to make recommendations to adapt and evolve existing business strategies and propose solutions. Some of the areas include:
- Marketing - provide insights on high-converting lead channels to enhance ROI assessment and enable scalable initiatives, identifying the origins and conversion journey of high-quality leads for successful application and disbursement (using data in our Dynamics CRM, website landing pages, Google, and social media ads analytics accounts)
- Entrepreneurship programs - develop and implement a data-driven framework to answer critical questions about Young Entrepreneurs’ success, business ideas, program effectiveness, and event impact, enabling informed decision-making and continuous improvement
- Mentoring - enhance mentoring program measurement framework with KPIs including mentor recruitment, mentor/Young Entrepreneur satisfaction, and performance metrics for mentor matching
- Credit Adjudication and compliance - analyze industry-specific application and disbursement data, track compliance conditions, report median days to disbursement (in conjunction with launch readiness), and provide insights on program/segment performance with credit scores and business risk profiles
- Client services and conversion - develop and maintain data models to accurately calculate the lead to applicant to disbursement conversion rate; analyze key drivers of conversion, such as lead source, nurturing activities, and engagement metrics
- Client experience - analyze client service data (calls/engagements, conversion rates, follow-ups, sentiment analysis using the data from our surveys, Zendesk ticketing system, CRM, website and client portal) and user experience data (customer flows, time, clicks, handoffs, process repetition) to improve service quality and enhance user satisfaction throughout clients’ Futurpreneur journeys
Data Management
- Organize, structure and maintain data in a logical and meaningful way, including creating databases, data dictionaries, establishing naming conventions, and developing folder structures to facilitate efficient data storage, retrieval, and analysis
- Perform data cleaning procedures to ensure accuracy, completeness, and consistency of data, including identifying and resolving inconsistencies, errors, and missing values in large datasets
- Develop and maintain data pipelines and data processing workflows to ensure timely delivery of data
What you bring:
- Relevant experience may include education with a focus in Data Science, Statistics, Economics, Maths or other quantitative field or equivalent hands-on career experience
- Proven experience as a Data Scientist or Data Analyst
- Experience in data mining and statistical analysis
- Understanding of machine-learning and operations research
- Knowledge of R, SQL and Python; familiarity in programming languages like SAS, Java/Python or C++ is an asset
- Experience using business intelligence tools (e.g. Tableau) and data frameworks (e.g. Hadoop)
- Strong quantitative skills (e.g. statistics, algebra)
- Knowledge of digital marketing analytics tools including Google 360, Google Analytics, Google Tag Manager and Adobe Marketing Suite
- Advanced experience in pattern recognition and predictive modeling
- Experience with Microsoft Office particularly Excel, PowerPoint
- Ability to work effectively in a dynamic, research-oriented group that has several concurrent projects
- Strong time management with ability to prioritize and manage deadlines
- Analytical mind and business acumen, able to determine the questions that will provide the most insight
- Strong attention to detail
- Strong problem-solving aptitude
- Excellent communication for effective stakeholder management, including ability to write and speak clearly to communicate complex ideas in a way that is easy to understand
- Bilingualism in French & English (spoken & written) – an asset
