The Planning and Performance Department is a small, friendly team where you will be supported with development and given the opportunity to learn new skills. The team delivers dynamic, contextualised business insights to support academic quality assurance and enhancement, institutional strategic decision-making, business planning and continuous improvement. We work with colleagues across the University to support senior leaders in making well-informed and evidence-led decisions. Our remit includes horizon scanning and providing interpretation of the implications of economic and policy changes on the University. We ensure that the University meets statutory and regulatory reporting requirements and provide guidance on compliance with conditions of registration with the Office for Students.
As Data Analyst (Performance), you will support the development, through data modelling, of a range of business intelligence solutions to monitor student performance and help BCU improve student satisfaction and student success. You will manage the Academic staff Workload Allocation Model (WAM) system, thereby supporting BCU deliver academic excellence in teaching and research through sustainable and equitable workload planning and reporting. You will also develop a comprehensive understanding of the portfolio of work undertaken by the Planning and Performance Department and will be given opportunities to work across a variety of tasks within the department in response to business need and prioritisation of work across the academic year.
Main Duties and Responsibilities:
- Develop Business Intelligence dashboarding and visualisation solutions using MS Power BI / Tableau platforms making performance data available to the wider university on a timely basis.
- Provide reports and support to academic and executive Committees of the University.
- Administer and maintain the academic Workload Allocation Model (WAM), providing support to academics to comply with the Workload Allocation Model Framework, ensuring data quality issues are resolved.
- Manage WAM regular queries for users, and maintain SharePoint site with information, advice, and guidance on WAM.
- Implement any changes to WAM agreed by the WAM Oversight Committee.
- Support and train a network of designated WAM Administrators in Faculties and coordinate distribution of communications.
- Liaise with outside supplier and with BCU IT department to manage system enhancements and integration.
- Undertake statutory and internal reporting from WAM database.
- Work alongside colleagues in the Planning and Performance Department and the IT development team to find data modelling solutions to business intelligence reporting requirements in both the WAM data stream but also the student performance monitoring areas.
