Job Title: Intern- 1 year industrial placement – Falanx Cyber
Start date: Summer 2023
Hours: Shift Pattern to cover a 24/7 Rota.
Location: Reading and remote working
Salary: £21,600 (inclusive of shift working) + excellent benefits

The Role
We have an exciting opportunity for an Intern with a genuine passion and interest in Cyber Security to join our growing team in one of the UK’s most successful information security firms. The team are responsible for monitoring, analysing, assessing and defending the security systems of our growing client base and resilience against any systems being compromised. These SOC Services are delivered using market-leading Detection and Response tools.
Falanx Cyber (FC) interns are responsible for the day-to-day delivery of SOC Services to customers. This includes the analysis of Potential Security Incidents, communications with customers and generation and delivery of Daily and Monthly reports. In any spare time, Interns are expected to further their knowledge in Cyber Security matters, ‘Threat-Hunt’, and make suggestions for improving service.
Key Accountabilities
· Working as part of a shift team, utilising a toolset that includes the most advanced SIEM and EDR solutions to monitor and investigate security events received from Customer's monitored IT estates, so that potential attacks can be detected.
· Providing situational security awareness by combining information from a variety of systems and normalizing / correlating the information.
· Identifying suspicious and / or anomalous activities and taking appropriate action based on documented processes and procedures.
· Checking system vulnerabilities and recommending remedial action to be taken.
· Performing analysis of log files.
· Assisting Customers with security related issues.
· Managing security incidents through all phases of the incident response lifecycle from identification through to closure.
· Providing prompt and comprehensive client reporting, ensuring that all events and alerts of note are raised in relevant reports and comprehensive and helpful commentary is provided for clients.
· Escalating (where necessary) events to more senior SOC Analysts.
· Carrying out all activities in line with SOC policies and SOC procedures.
· Providing effective internal communication and handover to oncoming shift personnel.
· Continuously seeking to identify potential service / tool improvements which will enhance the delivered services.
Interns are specifically responsible for:
· Producing Customer reports to a high degree of quality and accuracy.
· Providing Call Handling and Request Fulfilment services and acting as a single point of contact for clients wishing to contact other SOC employees.
· Maintaining the SOC Environment including performing SOC Status Checks during each shift.
· Ensuring potential tuning candidates are identified and captured in the Tuning Request Register.
· Progressing client Tuning Requests as appropriate during the shift.
Skills / Qualifications / Experience
Essential
· Currently studying for a Computer Science/Cyber Security degree
· Knowledge of Windows and Linux based operating systems and IT networking protocols.
· Knowledge of firewalls and intrusion detection systems.
· Passion for all things information technology and information security.
· Good attention to detail.
· Natural curiosity and ability to learn new skills quickly.
· Ability to work shifts and be flexible to operational requirements.
· Good team worker.
· Good telephony and report writing skills.
· Ability to obtain an SC clearance
