Job description
Arup is a multi–disciplinary firm of designers, planners, engineers, consultants, and technical specialists working across every aspect of the built environment. Together we help our clients solve their most complex challenges – turning exciting ideas into tangible reality as we strive to find a better way to shape a better world. At Arup we believe when talented people collaborate, remarkable things are possible. Arup hires people with proven skills and open minds. We are defined by our values, our vision, and our creativity.
Job Purpose
Digitalisation of the built environment presents new cyber risk (to safety and security) and operational resilience challenges for our clients. To respond to wider public and government expectations, and to service a growing demand from clients, Arup began a global initiative to embed cyber-security into our holistic service offering. This opportunity is to develop new cyber advisory business in at least one of our target market sectors.
Responsibilities
You will be expected to:
- Identify, plan and lead our cyber advisory business development activities in your assigned portfolio area of responsibility, to grow the cyber advisory business (measured by revenue and profit) year-on-year, including acting as the principal ‘connector’ between Arup’s new UKIMEA cyber advisory service offering and Arup’s existing digital engineering, business investment, and risk, security and resilience services, in your portfolio area of responsibility.
- Lead and manage cyber advisory consultancy engagements within your own target market (portfolio area), including programme delivery leadership and account management.
- Deliver highest-quality professional cyber advisory services, primarily but not exclusively, within your own portfolio area of responsibility. These will include working with clients to understand their cyber security risks, then creating innovative and sustainable solutions to address those risks.
- Lead, support, enable, mentor and develop Arup members assigned to UKIMEA cyber advisory engagements, collaborating with similar leaders in other Arup portfolios and regions, to share experience, capabilities and resources for best effect.
- Lead the cost-efficient and value-adding development of existing UKIMEA cyber advisory services and products, and identify opportunities for, and help the design of, new UKIMEA cyber advisory consultancy products and services.
- Aid in the development of UKIMEA cyber advisory capabilities including recruitment, staff management, processes, tools and frameworks to support the broader development of cyber capabilities globally.
- Work collaboratively (normally virtually) with other parts of Arup to positively differentiate Arup’s cyber advisory service offering to the market (both locally and globally). This may include presenting to large audiences.
The Person
Ability:
Candidates should have credible cyber experience (both in delivery and in Business Development) within at least one of the following market sectors:
- Energy, Water and Resources
- Property and Social Infrastructure: Commercial, Residential, Education, Sport, Hotels and Leisure
- Science, Industry and Technology
- Cities Planning and Design
- Transport: Aviation, Maritime, Rail, Highways
- Mergers & Acquisitions - Due Diligence (in support of Business Investor Advisory services)
Arup is looking for a technically able, professionally qualified cyber-security consultant, who should be comfortable working at all levels of seniority within our client base. Candidates will be considered from a broad range of backgrounds, including technology consulting, management consulting, cyber-security architecture, cyber-security engineering, risk management or advisory. Risk-based thinking is essential: it is the core of everything we do, and every part of our advice is founded on it. Our current focus in the development of our cyber services is around the risks associated with digital technology within the built environment and in the design of connected infrastructure: candidates should have experience in this topic. Much of our work is delivered through working in a team on large projects and consulting directly with clients: the successful candidate will be expected to be the principal cyber security expert on the project team. Clients are often senior: in addition to strong technical skills, you must have excellent written, presentation and influencing skills. Ability to obtain UKNSV at SC level is desirable. NCSC CCP at Lead/Principal Consultant level will be advantageous.
Motivation:
The individual must be highly motivated to grow our UKIMEA cyber advisory business within one of our key target markets (portfolio areas). Arup is looking for the right candidate who has the influencing skills to develop ‘non-transactional’ relationships with local portfolio area experts, with technology and advisory peers, and with other colleagues in advisory roles across the whole of Arup. We want someone who can develop genuine relationships with our external clients. The successful candidate will also combine their own experience with the knowledge and expertise of other Arup members to provide integrated solutions to our clients’ challenges.
Attitude:
We are seeking an inspiring and dedicated leader, who has demonstrable experience of leading teams to deliver complex multi-million-pound solutions which involve people, process, and technology components that achieve tangible outcomes. Strong candidates will be original, critical thinkers; able to analyse and conceptualise innovative solutions to emerging challenges, such as the convergence of cyber-physical environments and the opportunities and risks presented by big-data, AI, machine learning, digital twins, and BIM. The successful candidate will have an obvious passion for how security can shape a better world and, ideally, will have experience in a senior leadership security role.
Summary:
The successful candidate will be able to grow a new cyber business in their portfolio area through developing strong client relationships and by providing authoritative cyber risk management leadership. As subject matter experts in their chosen field they will evidence their ability, motivation, and attitude to become trusted advisors, to influence client thinking, to develop new business, while also leading people humanely, and owning excellent service delivery.
Rewards and Benefits
We offer a competitive salary at all levels, and one of the best benefits packages in our sector.
Core benefits include cover under the UK Healthcare Plan (private medical insurance), Life Assurance, Accident Insurance, and Income Protection (long-term disability) cover. Core benefits are funded by us and made available to all permanent staff in order to support and safeguard your financial, physical, and mental well-being. You will also have access to Choice Benefits to help with your work/life balance and financial security.
In addition, all permanent employees are eligible for the Global Profit Share scheme. Subject to scheme rules employees can receive two Profit Share payments per year, which are dependent on the firm’s financial performance.
