Maternity Cover - 9 month FTC
Location - Head Office (London or Manchester)
The role
Reporting to the Customs Manager the candidate will be responsible for UK Customs Classification for the Group as well as managing the day to day operational processes carried out by the Export team for Boohoo. The Customs Compliance Specialist will need strong management skills and operational experience with product classification to and advanced level, working knowledge of customs declarations, export documentation and conducting compliance audits. The candidate will also be responsible for supporting key projects including customs audits, system upgrades and developments as well as deputising for the Customs Manager as required.

What you’ll be doing
- Ownership of Customs Classification for all products to include Menswear, Womenswear, Childrenswear, Footwear, Accessories and Home.
- Conducting on-going audits to ensure all products are classified correctly and on time.
- Maintenance of UK Duty sheets in conjunction with the internal freight calculator mapping.
- Ownership of the Export Documentation process in conjunction with Wholesale Partners and International customs requirements.
- Management of the Global Factory list for the London Chamber of Commerce to support on-line Certificates of Origin.
- Auditing and ensuring compliance of relevant import/export customs procedures as well as conducting regular periodic reviews of the procedures to ensure that they are current and are within applicable legal requirements
- Maintaining detailed and accurate records such as standard operating procedures, compliance logs and establishing controls and procedures in all relevant areas, as well as Reporting.
- Managing and developing 3 direct reports (Export Analysts) and effectively supporting training, prioritisation and delegation of workload
- Auditing the accuracy of commercial export documentation produced to resolve queries in a timely way by communicating with B&M, Wholesale teams and Freight Forwarders in order to prevent delays to stock being despatched from the Distribution Centres
- Ensuring that all customs instructions are correct and sent to agents within the appropriate timeframes for sea, air and road
- Assisting with HMRC Audits and Duty Reclaims as required
- Producing weekly KPI’s and management reports.
- Working with the Line Manager on relevant projects in relation to Customs to establish required systems and processes, testing, documenting and implementation within the daily operations whilst ensuring the Group remain compliant with HMRC at all times.
- Maintaining up to date knowledge of import and export legislation, shipping and documentation requirements for importing and exporting products globally.
- Actively checking for updates and amendments to Customs regulations and communicating to the team as necessary
- Supporting Carrier compliance queries and resolving these in a timely manner.
- Maintaining SOP’s for the function in line with HMRC requirements.

About you
- Proven track record working in a similar role/level for 3+ years
- In depth knowledge of UK and international tariff coding and classification procedures
- Export documentation
- Highly Numerate/Analytical
- Team Management
- Ability to lead projects
- Good communication skills both verbal and written
- Ability to work under pressure and to deadlines
- Knowledge and experience of using Global Trade Compliance systems
- Experience of Excel to an advanced level
