Job description
The Customer and Sustaining Engineer (CSE) Manager role is a significant position within our NanoScience business. It is responsible for the engineering function in the delivery of customer engineered products, manages, and conducts derivative development of all released products to ensure functionality, compliance and cost management is maintained in all regards. As the customer facing part of engineering, this role is key in the management of the customer experience.
We are looking for an experienced engineering manager, who can develop the CSE team, whilst driving quality and process improvement.
The opportunity
In this role you will work with the commercial team on tendering and RFQ activities, ensuring specification, cost and risk are appropriately defined and mitigations planned to ensure successful outcomes. You will manage product developments with your team and controlling the project timescales with the PMO, including all design, validation, compliance documentation and test support activities in support of customer products. It will require collaboration with the NPI and R&D teams for the most complex projects.
You will also provide the first line engineering for both field and factory on technical issues, supporting Operations and Customer Support. In addition, you will support engineering improvement actions and product improvements as agreed with Product Management and provide feedback to the Product and Engineering roadmap based on lessons learned from customer projects.
You will be required to set and implement engineering standards and operating procedures, to foster a culture of continuous improvement, customer satisfaction and business excellence. As a member of the engineering management team, you shall provide individual and collective leadership in developing and implementing the functional strategy.
About You
To be successful in this role it is likely that you will have a degree in an engineering or physics discipline, with strong knowledge of systems engineering, electromechanical design and product development experience. It would be ideal if you have knowledge in the areas of cryogenics, magnetics of low temperature instrumentation or a similar field. You will need undeniable experience in engineering or technical management, of product lifecycles and business processes lifecycles related to customer engineering and an understanding of modular design, The ability to plan and deliver against projects, problem solve, make decisions and manage complexity is essential.
