Customer Service Assistant
Part-time / 21 & 27 hours per week / Permanent
Would you like to work in one of our museums and heritage visitor attractions and support day-to-day operations in delivering a great visitor experience?
Leicester is full of world class art, culture and heritage, and the city council is committed to growth and the vision is to create experiences that make Leicester truly special. We draw a broad range of visitors seeking a great museum and heritage experience, discovering stories presented through dynamic displays and exhibitions to museum visitors, guests attending weddings, participants attending conferences and events. The experience also touches those attending concerts and performances across our historic venues.
You’ll be part of a visitor focused operations team delivering excellent front of house services, operational and retail activities, acting as ambassadors of our collections and exhibitions. We pride ourselves in presenting a welcoming and friendly face to all visitors, ensuring a professional and quality experience for all.
You’ll be based at either the historic Leicester Guildhall or the City’s flagship Leicester Museum & Art Gallery. You must be willing to work from Monday to Sunday on a rota basis and work flexible hours as required (daytime, evenings, weekends, bank holidays and occasionally throughout the night) in support of business priorities.
What you’ll be doing
You’ll provide a warm welcome to all visitors and a range of associated duties to support the delivery of a high-quality experience. This includes regular operational checks, retail sales in the shop, dealing with booking enquiries, as well as playing an important role in the planning and delivery of exciting events and activities programme. You could be delivering guided tours/talks, act as a welcome host during wedding. Conferences and exhibition launch events, while preserving a safe and welcoming place by maintaining a clean and secure environment.
You’ll develop a thorough knowledge of the location, and the stories told through the displays and exhibitions, to ensure the venue delivers to the standards expected of an award-winning museum/visitor attraction.
What you’ll need
Ideally with some heritage / museum / visitor attraction or similar background, you’ll join the team that provides a high standard of visitor friendly service. You’ll be able to answer visitors’ cultural and heritage enquiries, arrange wedding and venue hire bookings, and support the delivery of events to attract new and repeat audiences, while also helping in the delivery of exhibition launch events. You’ll maintain a positive and professional approach, and be flexible, proactive, and self-motivated.
With experience of working within a busy visitor focused environment, you’ll be committed to delivering excellent customer service standards, while ensuring a welcoming, safe, and secure visitor attraction environment. Using good communication and interpersonal skills, you’ll be able to deliver occasional guided tours and talks to a range of audiences, and, most importantly, be a team player.
What we can offer you
As well as the satisfaction of helping to improve thousands of lives across Leicester, you can look forward to a work environment that encourages a healthy work/life balance. You’ll enjoy generous annual leave, membership of the Local Government Pension Scheme and the option of flexible working. We’ll also give you the chance to develop your skills and expertise with a variety of training and development opportunities. In addition, you can choose from a number of flexible benefits, including childcare vouchers, discounts on city buses and trains and help with relocation to Leicester, where appropriate.
