Home based
Hutsmith is a cabin maker.
We are a small full time team of 3 with outsourced manufacturing and delivery. We have delivered over 50 buildings over the last 2 years and are preparing for further growth in 2023. We operate at the higher end of the market and most of our clients happen to be in the creative industries. We have a strong social media following and most of our customers come from digital channels. We only deliver one building at a time.
The job:
The role is part-time and you choose the hours (must be Monday to Friday, during the day). Starting from 15 hours a week currently, but there will be the opportunity to grow this.
Responsibility for back-end operations. Once a customer deposit is placed, your job will be to understand what materials are required (wood and windows) via the architectural drawings, order them at best price from suppliers, liaise with the manufacturing team and liaise with the client.
You should also update the system on all prices, so that we have a clear understanding on profitability. You will have some influence over improving the manufacturing and delivery process through improved stock management, material usage, prices and process.
Key items
- Identifying materials e.g. window sizes, timber widths etc – creating a design process built around these standardised variables
- Liaison with suppliers and supply chain e.g. glazing, timber
- Planning drawings for customers requiring planning
- Liaison with workshop regarding bill of materials and ongoing feedback to develop improved stock and materials management
- Keeping up key admin items e.g. insurances, H&S documents etc.
- Client liaison during both the factory build and onsite delivery
- Customer installation workflow management to maximise product profitability
- Liaison with Finance team re: Profit Analysis – ongoing Process review, Stock management,
- Input into improved operations process development
About you
You will be positive and organised, detailed and a really good communicator – especially with suppliers and customer. You are likely to want to challenge the way we are doing things and not be shy about coming forward with better ideas. Hopefully you will have an interest in our products or at least an appreciation for what we are doing.

Part-time hours: 15 per week
Salary: £18.50 per hour
