Location: Flexibility on an Alstom base location. However, will need to be close to either Derby or London due to stakeholders/customers. Travel in the UK is essential for this role, with the occasional international travel requirement

The Alstom UK&I Commercial Team
Alstom’s Commercial UK&I Team are building on their success with an opportunity for a UK&I Customer Director role.
The Commercial Team in Alstom UK&I has responsibility for the Sales and Order Intake performance of the business, owning, and managing relationships with Key Accounts including Train Operators and Rail Financiers, and developing and implementing strategies with Industry stakeholders to develop new business.
Main purpose of role
The UK&I Customer Director will:
- Manage the overall Alstom commercial relationship with a number of Alstom’s key customer accounts
- Develop and implement a 3-5 year Account Development strategy to manage and grow the customer account relationships
- Close large, targeted contracts as well as building a pipeline of new opportunities in your key customer accounts
- Working with the Marketing and Business Development teams, identify key market trends & opportunities and make key inputs to Alstom’s future development of Products and Services
In this role you’ll be the senior single point of contact for your key accounts and responsible for driving and managing the senior engagement between Alstom and the Customer accounts. You will be working across all of Alstom’s product lines and tasked with identifying new business opportunities and working with the Product Lines & Bids Teams to develop solutions.
What are my key responsibilities?
- Define and implement Account Development strategies with UK Commercial Director in line with Region’s business plan and Market and Business Development functions
- Promote ALSTOM products and services (or a specific Product Line) to develop and win business with your nominated key customer accounts
- Deliver the order intake commitment across your key customer accounts
- Provide commercial management on the delivery of contracts for your customers
- Compile market intelligence on business trends and needs, and competitors’ strategies in your customer accounts
- Build strong, personal customer relationships; Find access to decision networks and utilise them to ensure the Alstom messages are clear
- Ensure that ALSTOM Ethics and Compliance rules are applied in all sales actions
- Be a key representative for Alstom’s commercial business interests out in the wider market
- Build relationships within the UK&I with government bodies and key rail stakeholders as needed
What do I need to qualify for this job?

You’ll currently be operating in a comparable role in the Rail Industry and be looking for a new challenge to enhance your career and to work on high profile projects and with market leaders that you might not otherwise have had exposure to.
You’ll need to have significant rail industry experience and an impeccable track record of managing key accounts, developing & closing new business and managing large contracts commercially. You’ll naturally have commercial and contract management awareness and will comprehend how you will add value to the commercial team and to Alstom.
Communication will be a key attribute to your role and it’s imperative that you can disseminate often complex information and effectively communicate it out to the wider business.
Essential Experience, Qualifications, Knowledge, and Skills
- Graduate Degree in Engineering or Business field
- Master of Business Administration or in Engineering would be desirable but not essential
- Significant Rail Industry experience
- Proven track record of delivering pipeline growth and closing new business
- Proven experience of providing commercial management of large and complex contracts
