We have an exciting opportunity for you to join our team of dedicated friendly CT Radiographers at Scunthorpe General Hospital for a fixed term maternity cover period.
We are a district general hospital performing a wide range of CT examinations including Radiographer-led CT colonography sessions.
We are looking for highly motivated Radiographers with experience in performing CT colonography and a willingness to share their knowledge. The role includes the supervision/training of junior staff.
We are passionate about providing exceptional patient care. Candidates must be HCPC registered and would ideally hold a Postgraduate Certificate in CT imaging. The ability to perform intravenous cannulations is essential
We are a busy department open seven days a week and this post requires working a variety of shifts in response to the service needs of our CT Colonography service.
The main requirement for this role is for the base site to be at Scunthorpe General Hospital. Flexibility is required, there may be opportunities to work across our other hospital sites.
- Perform high standard clinical duties as required, in line with current departmental protocols, providing high-quality imaging and patient care
- Participate in the CT colonography service
- Demonstrate specialist theoretical and practical knowledge of CT
- Manage the outpatient and inpatient workload. Required to allocate and reallocate workloads within the team to ensure patient deadlines are met and patient breaches avoided
- Understand the vetting and protocolling of requests and know when to seek Radiologist advice
- Undertake justification of referrals in line with IR(ME)R and department protocols
- Provide a highly specialised technical/clinical service using CT and scanning equipment to aid diagnosis
- Communicate complex information effectively to a wide range of stakeholders including patients and their families or carers, providing them with accurate information. Where information of a sensitive nature is given to a patient, this should be done with compassion, empathy and forethought
- Possess the necessary skills to cope with claustrophobic, anxious or aggressive patients
- Develop and maintain skills in cannulation and admin of contrast media
- Work in close liaison with radiology staff, Radiologists, clinicians, nurses and others
- Adhere to Ionising Radiation Regulations IR(ME)R2000, local rules, ensuring all examinations are justified in accordance with local protocols
- Assist in the training of Radiographers, students, APs and HCAs.

The post holder will participate in the operational management of the department in conjunction with the Head of Department and other senior Radiographers. The Radiographer will deputise for other senior Radiographers and Heads of Department when required and will maintain effective communication and productive relationships with all stakeholders, upholding the reputation of the directorate and speciality at all times.
They will undertake and perform diagnostic imaging examinations requested to a high level of radiographic skill. The post holder should be
willing to work both within a larger hospital-based team and a smaller Community Diagnostics integrated and multi-skilled team. The department offers a seven-day service to its stakeholders and it is a requirement that the post holder takes part in the CT colonography service.
We have well-developed equipment; 64 slice CT scanners, and 1.5T MRI scanners at each site, and the Trust investment programme continues to demonstrate commitment to service improvement. Scunthorpe's Blue Sky Imaging Suite opened in August 2012, and is a purpose-built cross-sectional imaging suite, housing a GE Optima 660 64 slice CT scanner, a GE Revolution 64 slice and a GE 450W wide bore 1.5T MRI scanner. Building works are also in progress to extend the department's MRI resources.
As a Trust, we are actively committed to CPD, and encourage people to widen their scope of practice, currently having radiographers performing IV cannulation, radiographer reporting and Radiographer-led CT colonography. We have a comprehensive induction programme, which is directly linked to a competency-based structure.
The department actively encourages CPD and supports post-graduate certificate training.
