The Club

Wembdon is a thriving club at the heart of the community on the edge of Bridgwater,
Somerset. The club can boast 5x Saturday XI’s, Sunday XI, Ladies Cricket and a successful youth section. Juniors can start their journey with All Stars Cricket aged 5 and progress through our age group sides from which our Under 11 and 13’s are current league champions. We have a strong pathway with many of our juniors going on to play senior cricket.
Our 1stXI compete in the West of England Premier League, 2ndXI (Div 2), 3rdXI (Div 5), 4thXI (Div 7) of the Somerset Cricket League and our 5thXI (Div 3) West Somerset Cricket League.
The club plays its cricket at The Green, a large modern venue with excellent facilities that opened in 2017. Match days generate a good atmosphere and the club is well supported.

Job Summary

Wembdon Cricket Club would like to invite applications for the post of Head Coach. The club would be open to a ‘Player Coach’ or a non playing coach. The club is looking for a candidate that has the desire to drive the club forwards. The role would include coaching
Wembdon Cricket Club junior and senior teams.

Responsibilities and Duties

The club has aspirations to progress up the WEPL Pyramid and the successful candidate will play a key role in the club's senior development. The successful candidate would plan, set-up and deliver senior training sessions for our 1st/2ndXI group and the wider club.
Senior training is currently split over two weekday evenings. It would be desirable but not essential if the successful candidate could be present to support the players on 1stXI match days. That involvement could also include a playing role but that is not essential.

The club has a rich and successful history producing young cricketers. The successful candidate would play a big role in continuing that success. The successful candidate would plan, set up and deliver junior training sessions. Lead a team of junior coaches who will assist with the delivery of youth cricket.

There will also be additional opportunities to deliver one-to-one sessions and deliver school holiday cricket camps if the candidate wishes to expand their offer.

Required Experience

● Minimum Level 2 Coach, Level 3 desirable.
● Previous experience of coaching juniors (age 8+) and seniors essential.
● Must have or be willing to obtain Safeguarding and DBS certificates.

The ideal Candidate will:

● Be an excellent communicator.
● Be able to adapt sessions to meet the needs of the group.
● Be able to deliver challenging and varied training sessions.
● Be able to offer feedback to seniors and juniors.
● Must work effectively as part of a team.
● Be able to work a minimum of 2 but ideally 3 weekday evenings per week.

Schedule

8 hours of coaching per week plus match days if applicable. 3 hours with juniors and up to 5 hours with seniors including set up time. Typically Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday evenings. Saturday match days if applicable.
From mid April until the end of August (21 weeks).

Pay

Training to be paid at an hourly rate. Match days (if applicable) at a daily rate. Pay negotiable depending on experience. Expected to be in a range of £20ph-£30ph. It is anticipated the coach would be self employed and paid monthly having presented an invoice. The club can be flexible with this and does operate a payroll for employees.
