Job description
About us
We are a small team of ambitious, passionate, and committed people who have come together to make our shared purpose a reality – to help build better futures for the communities that need it most. We achieved our full banking licence in 2022 and are delighted to be growing our team to enable our big ambitions. We are determined to grow a bank that we and our team can be proud of. One that makes a difference, is empathetic, fair and creates opportunities for everyone.
Role purpose
In this exciting role, we’ll rely on you to review and underwrite loan applications for our full range of property finance solutions. This will include development and bridging finance, as well as commercial mortgages, investment and buy-to-let loans.
One of the best things about this role is the opportunity to help GB Bank deliver sustainable growth, through maintaining high credit standards and a well-balanced lending book. In turn, this will help us to achieve our ambitions and really make a difference.
In this role you’ll find yourself…
- Communicating and working effectively with Relationship Managers, Customers and Brokers to gather information needed to make lending decisions.
- Reviewing the suitability of loan applications based upon a detailed risk analysis and assessment of repayment capacity.
- Using your delegated lending mandate to underwrite property-backed lending transactions, further advances and account reviews in line with GB Bank Lending Policy, Treating Customers Fairly (TCF) and responsible lending principles.
- Ensuring that all applications are structured to manage key risks, complete with appropriate conditions. Recording a robust rationale for each lending decision.
- Preparing cases that fall outside your personal lending mandate and presenting to appropriate mandate holders, including Credit Decisioning Committees where required.
- Proactively supporting post-underwriting case progression (e.g. oversight of property due-diligence and documentation), as well as supporting post-completion processing and case management (further drawdowns, covenant monitoring and account reviews).
- Reviewing the suitability of security, property valuations and other specialist reports. Liaising with valuation and legal panel firms, as appropriate.
- Identifying potential improvements to underwriting systems, policies, criteria and processes.
- Ensuring that MI and systems are updated accurately and in a timely manner.
A bit about you – You will have / will be most of the following:
- Minimum 12 months experience operating with a lending mandate in a commercial lending underwriting environment covering a variety of sectors, including Real Estate.
- Proven track-record in a SME/Corporate client focused credit environment, ability to respond to client needs and tailor service delivery to them.
- Recent in-depth knowledge of property transactions with an understanding of whole life-cycle risk management.
- Full understanding of commercial legal and valuation processes along with wider commercial risk issues.
- You’re driven by quality and pace and have a strong desire to exceed expectations.
- Proactive and infectiously positive – you build relationships by truly understanding what people need and by fulfilling your promises.
- Driven by a desire to ensure your work makes a difference and has an enduring impact.
- Laser-focused attention to detail - you are planned, prepared, and can effectively handle competing priorities.
- Strong analytical skills which will mean you can extract meaningful data, convey it with clarity and make sure action is identified and taken.
- Excited by the opportunity to work in a start-up bank with a strong purpose.
