Would you like to contribute to the creation of a giant puppet as part of an exciting carnival celebration?
Hampshire Cultural Trust, the Lead Partner for the Gosport Cultural Consortium, is looking for a local creative maker who is keen to develop their practical skills and artistic knowledge in puppetry. Working to a defined project brief, over the course of a week-long residency, you will have access to a fabrication workshop and receive expert advice on creating props and structures from 101 Outdoor Arts. The residency takes between 2nd – 7th of April 2023, at the National Centre for Arts in Public Space in Newbury, Berkshire and includes accommodation and meals onsite.
There may be the opportunity for the successful maker to deliver additional community workshops in Gosport after the residency, but this will be discussed separately to this contract.
A bit about you
You may be a visual artist, sculptor, painter, costume or textile artist who is keen to develop their large-scale practical making skills. You will have an understanding of construction and basic engineering and appreciate how different materials function. You will be confident with hand tools and power tools or willing to learn as part of the residency.
You will have an excellent eye for detail and produce work to a consistently high standard, whilst being mindful of time and budget constraints.
You will be able to work well within a team environment of mixed skill levels to achieve a collective outcome. With active listening skills you should demonstrate a willingness to learn and an enthusiasm for making.
